Only the rural kids got to ride the buses, I rode my bike.

I had to take two bloody transit buses to get to high school in the first two years.

I used to live near Chinatown, by Laney College...next to Highway 880.

My high school was on the OTHER side of Oakland...Oakland High, next to Highway 550...I hated it...

However, in my senior year...I got my first car...and drove to High School...now that was awesome...

Mine was about 30 mins with the stops. On a side note, I see the buses now stopping way to much. I was behind one the other day in my neighborhood, and it stopped like every 2 blocks. No wonder we have a bunch of fat kids these days.

The only time I rode the bus was in Kindergarten. I have vague memories of the ride home, and one vivid memory of being dropped off and my mom not being there. Luckily, I knew where Grandma lived, and went there. And what do you know, my mom was there. She had lost track of time. Never happened again.

I don't recall how long the ride was.

In all my years of school I never rode a bus. I either walked, rode my bike, was driven or drove myself.

My worst was in 7th grade. We had just moved to a new house, way out in the country. The bus picked me up at 630, maybe 7am, then went winding through all creation picking people up from all grades and schools, then it went to a staging area where we were divided up into elementary, jr high and high school and had to wait for another bus to take us to our school. The whole process was easily an hour, usually longer.

The ride home was pretty bad too, it was overcrowded and I was an orchestra dork with a viola case to carry. Real popular.

My high school driver's license couldn't have come any quicker.

I walked and on really bad weather days -- I would get a ride. Come to think of it, I don't think anyone took a bus to my high school.

45 minutes. Lived in a semi rural town. The school was about 7-8 miles from my house. Our bus picked up everyone in a what seemed like a ten mile radius. We also were the only school age kids down our road. My bus driver would switch off days on his route so I was either one of the first to be left off or dead last. On the days I was first; I had to walk 3/4 of a mile home (he would drop me off at the end of the road) rather than haul a bus load of kids to my house but would usually drive me to my house if I was the last one. He was a nice guy and thinking back wonder how he put up with some of our nonsense on the bus.

Never needed a bus to school.
But my commute to work once was 2 hours (and 2 hours back, of course)...

I always lived in the country during my school years so I rode the bus every day until I could drive. My sophomore year there was a school district consolidation so the amount of time spent on the bus went way up. In the morning I was the first picked up so I was on the bus for just over an hour. In the afternoon I was the last one dropped off, but the route was a little different so it was only on the bus for about 45 minutes.
