New Conan movie---

Wow! Did I see the same movie? I have been a Conan fan my whole life. Not only did I have the comics and lots of figures, but I owned a number of the original RE Howard stories in the early pulps. A friend (and fellow Conan fan) and I went to the new movie yesterday and felt it caught the feel of Howard's original epics very well. My comment to my friend leaving the theatre was "Vastly superior to the Arnold Conan movies in every way except the music". That says a lot from me considering that I have seen the Arnold movies too many times to count. This new Conan reminds me more of the Barry Windsor Smith Conan where Arnold's Conan reminds me of Buscema's version. JOHNLeave a comment:

Ok so as some of you may or may not know I am a HUGE Conan Collector/fanboy..even got a Conan tattoo on my leg.
I did not have high hopes for the movie but being a Conan fanatic I had to see it anyway.
I can honestly say after going in the movie with an open mind it WAS NOT very good at all.
I do not think Jason Momoa was a good Conan. It seems he didn't study the Character at all as Arnold did. I don't think the movie came even close to Howard's Conan at all. Ive seen better cheesy 80's barbarian knockoff flicks that were way more Conan than this movie.
I expected it to be like the "newer" (and awful) conan comics that you see today.
All and all I DO NOT think it did justice to Howard's dark brooding epic Conan at all.
I would be very suprised if they made a sequel.
Thats my 2 cents...Leave a comment:

I'm a massive fan of Arni's Conan, but this Guardian article comparing Arnold to the new guy is pretty funny.

He hates the original and Arnie...lol.
The last sentence of his...
"Winner: 2011, by several billion light years."

I just think that's so hard to do nowadays. He could fistfight Cthulu and and the guys on Ain't It Cool News and IMDb would be like, "Clash of the Titans ripoff!" Could you imagine a straight adaption of "People of the Black Circle"? Everyone would complain it didn't seem like the real (i.e. Arnold) Conan to them and it was too Bollywood because most of the characters are Indian analogues.Leave a comment:

Hmmmm....
It looks okay; maybe not great, but there's plenty of mayhem. Even the obligatory car chase scene didn't bother me so much. I think one of the problems with doing a Conan ANYTHING is that he's THE prototypical lost world barbarian, and there've been so many clones over the decades that it's tough to stand out.

I'm just wondering how accurately they've portrayed R.E. Howard's character from the actual Conan stories this time round.
I suspect it'll be about as faithful to the source material as the John Milius movie was.
But accuracy aside, from what I've seen so far, the movie seems to lack that epic, sombre, brooding feel which so effectively underpinned the Milius film.Leave a comment:

To be honest...I think Conan is going to struggle at the box office.Leave a comment:

I saw a work print of the film a few weeks ago-- I didn't care for it as a CONAN movie. It's actually not that horrible, but that Jason Momoa dude is NOT the Conan I know and love. I'm sure it'll do well at the box office-- unlike another movie that comes out tomorrow...
