    my next wrestling gig

Hopefully this one ends better than the last. It looks to be a great show. The local promoter Jason Jones has really done an incredible job putting the card together. Headliners include "Hacksaw" Butch Reed, "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton, Sabu and the man who needs no introduction, just theme music...

      UPDATE: What a great show!

Just got back into the studio to begin the post production on this gig and man I gotta tell ya, it was fun. Thankfully everything went off without a hitch (well, almost, Sabu didn't show and apparently Butch Reed had a run in with the law that left him staying the night in some cities lock up but watcha gonna do?). Still no one was injured or died.

Jerry Lawler was amazing to watch. The man is a true pro. Prior to his main event match he and Bobby Eaton signed autographs and didn't stop until everyone in the room had one and their pictures taken if they wanted to. This is a guy who really gets it that his name and fame are only possible because of those folks. And once he got in the ring it was equally great. His 40 plus years of experience shined through. He really helped the other local guy look good. Also to note he treated the event as if it was the biggest WWE pay per view he had ever done. Professionalism, you can't help but appreciate it.

The even better part for me was after the fact when I got to chat him up about Superman. He's a huge fan of Big Blue. So I had to ask him his take on the revamp. His response shows that he is a rue fan at his core. While he said he thought it was a remarkably stupid idea concocted by people who have no real interest or love of the character he will still pick up the issues and support the Man of Steel. Dedication. Impressive.

Another guy I was extremely impressed with was Beautiful Bobby Eaton. While he can't wrestle anymore he does still serve as a guest referee and coach for the guys. Immediately after the match he pulled all the guys to the side backstage and proceeded to dole out the constructive criticism that ha made him an apparently well respected adviser to the new generation. Every ear and eye in the locker room was tuned in giving Bobby their complete attention. Earned Respect. Love that. Plus he was such a super nice guy! I didn't get a whole lot of time to rap with him but what I did get out of our brief exchanges was a guy who truly loves wrestling and helping others grow. And he is also very respectful of those that have made it possible for him to be a somewhat household name. Humility. I must applaud.

Over all the night was a hit even despite the card changes. Every fan seemed pleased and well satisfied with the $20 bill they dropped at the door. Shoot, I would have paid to see what all I witnessed but fortunately I was actually paid to be there. Talk about a win-win.

So in the end I guess the point I'm making is ( if here is even a need for one) is that if you've got a local wrestling troupe in your area, give 'em a shot one Saturday night. You may really enjoy it. Plus live, local entertainment in any form is always a great investment.

      Well, back to work...

Lawlwer no-showed here in Halifax a few months ago and they called him on his cell phone from the airport and he spoke to the crowd through a microphone.

You could tell he felt bad about it.
