noting that the tax dollar discussion is flirting with the no politics rule of the MM board, I'm just going to say that I respectfully disagree, but that I do think it is a very interesting story.
Rche, that's cool. We can respectfully agree to disagree. That's what makes this place so nice to visit: the people here.
Some one mentioned that it was the perfect crime
Well perfect in the point they have no true idea who did the crime and so far has never been caught
But here's the not so perfect parts of the crime he may have died in the attemp now that's not a perfect ending now is it ,also none of the money has ever been spent which means he didn't make his way out or if he did he lost the money somewhere on the way down so neither is a perfect ending
The F.B.I. just wants to put a name to the crime so they can embarrass the family and add insult to someones last name the way the F.B.I. was embarrassed and insulted it would be like having the last name Oswald when they find out who did it.
They also could be sending the simple message out that they don't ever give up on a cold case or that some value can come in the form of education on more recent cold cases if this ever comes to a conclusion.

That's well said. Cold cases/unsolved cases remain that way. They don't close a case if it's not solved so these will always come up if there's a new lead. It's just some are more well known to the public while many others don't get the spotlight.
Wasn't it an old FBI slogan "We always get our man!", ?
The Jaycee Dugard case is a perfect example of why cold cases need to stay open. The FBI continued on the cold case. It is almost unfathomable to think that she was found alive 18 years after being abducted at the age of 12 or 13.
