    MTV 30th Anniversary..

Although we all known known it hasn't been MTV for many many years, Anyone remember the glory days of MTV?
I watched it all the time in the 80's- early 90's. I used to even watch videos of bands I didn't like in order to watch one that I do!
There going to be showing alot of long forgotten stuff on Vh1 classic this weekend for anyone that's interested.

So VH1 will be honoring the anniversary but MTV itself isn't acknowledging it? That shows you EXACTLY what is wrong with the modern day incarnation of the channel...It's almost like they are embarrassed to even mention their roots as a MUSIC VIDEO channel...And yet they aren't embarrassed by the antics of Teen Moms, the cast of Jersey Shore, etc....

MTV hasn't been relevant for the last 2/3 of its existence, IMHO.

Man---this takes me back! I remember the aborning days of MTV! I think the very first music video I remember seeing was the one for the Triumph song "Magic Power" where they're flying through space on the signature Triumph guitar. Classic!!!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

                  Video killed the radio star...

                  and "reality" TV killed that

I remember when MTV came out, I was living w/ my dad and we didn't have cable b/c our local cable company (the one w/ the cheapest introductory offer), couldn't hook us up b/c our condo complex was smack in between 2 mountains, or so they said. We had to make due w/ Video One w/ Richard Blade (anyone remember this?). It was like a poor folks MTV, and it was only on for a half hour a day. We weren't supposed to watch TV til our chores were done, but my dad and his girlfriend weren't home until 5, so we watched anyway, (vacuuming during the commercials). This was cool b/c we could at least watch the coolest videos and not seem like idiots in school when the other kids were gabbing about Duran Duran, Billy Idol or whatever. We didn't see MTV until my brother would come out for visits w/ his family, and bring *gasp* the VCR. We could bootleg cable through it and get some channels. At last, MTV! He finally bought my dad a VCR for his birthday, so we could watch MTV all the time. (OK, not ALL the time!)

One of my fave MTV memories was when I moved outta my dad's and was a nanny (and a teacher), and lived in a house w/ cable TV. I used to watch the MTV Top 20 video countdown on Friday nights at 8pm. The kid I was a nanny for (age 3) particularly loved Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More" (Alice in Wonderland theme). Man the 80s were WEIRD!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
