RIP Elwy Yost

If you're not Canadian you might not have heard of Elwy Yost, host of "Magic Shadows" on TVO for 25 years. The man was a brilliant cinephile and introduced a generation to classic movies and (more interesting for me) movie serials. Yost didn't stick to one genre, he liked horror and science fiction as much as the next guy and gave it the same dignity he would anything else.

If anybody influenced my love of movies it was this guy.

Wow - I'm such a jerk. For some reason I believed he died several years ago.

Yost was a huge part of why I love classic movies so much too.

As a kid I kind of took the interviews for granted because I just figured that's what TV shows did - I didn't realize how incredible it was that a local public broadcasting station was getting these amazingly detailed interviews with all those legends.
