amazing that home a/c has only been around 70-80 years or so and central a/c in homes, less than that.

Did anyone grow up in a house that did not have an a/c?
We did not have a central unit in my childhood home in New Mexico, tho we did have a swamp cooler that blasted wet air into our hallway.
Both of my grandparents houses had one small 'window' unit mounted on a wall near the dining area. They only switched them on when we were eating with company.

Me! I grew up in a walk-up tenement here in NYC and we had one air conditioner in the living room and that’s it. I lived near the water so the temperature was always a bit more manageable than inland. No A/C now, but I’m pretty acclimated to it. It’s really just eating that kills me; can’t eat anything heavy in this weather. In heat like this you can have a great meal in some air conditioned place and then the second you walk outside, BOOM your body can’t decide whether to digest the food or help you cool off.

Eh, it's like I mentioned in a thread last year this time..

"A week of over 100 degree temps..?"

Try over 100 degrees from March to November..

Welcome to Kuwait. And yes, the humidity gets bad there, being next to a huge sea, and bad when the wind's from the right direction.

But yes, it can be brutal without A/C.. My parents live on a small lake, but no, they don't have any A/C. Jeez, they don't even have an answering machine..

Supposed to be another scorcher here in the Ohio Valley again today! Weather folks are predicting air temps of 96 with extra-high humidity (because regular humidity just wouldn't be enough) making it feel like about 115. It's like walking out the door into a big, hot, wet sponge.

Personally, I'll be glad for the first day we get with low humidities and a temp not above 90....!

It was 90 F here last night at like 9:30 PM -- that is just too crazy for words.

I am not complaining as I will take this any day over snow and winter, but it is HOT! I have a huge central air conditioning unit and it can't keep up during the day. My truck thermometer was at 102 when I left work yesterday.

                    What a rather ingenious idea!!!

By me today it is supposed to reach about 110 due to the humidity. Worse is that I caught an upper respiratory infection about a day ago and the heat does not help. On the plus side we have no AC where I work, only crap fans so in some ways it is a blessing that I got sick when I did. I am now home in the house with the AC running

I use to never be able to sleep with anything on tv, fan or what have you. Since I met my gf she loves it when the fan is on. Now I have got used to that. I cannot sleep without it now. ???? Amazing!

I do not remember having any back/neck aches from it though. You sure that is just not old age creeping up on you?
