    Billy Joel vs Elton John

Of the two, who is your favorite piano man ?

    I have to pick Elton.

Joel is ok, but sometimes his songs really annoy me (see The Longest Time)

I think Elton beats Joel for staying power too.

    Who's your fav ?

I think Billy Joel would win in a fight. Wait...what was the question?

Just personal preference, I'd pick Elton John. I love Billy Joel's music as well but if I were to line up all of the Elton John songs I like vs. Billy Joel songs; Elton wins.

Billy Joel writes his own compositions. Elton John seldom does. Billy wins hands down.

I like them both, but I think I'll pick Elton.

Elton John composes all his music - but he works with collaborators for the lyrics.

I'd have to pick Elton John - some of his 70s work is really incredible. After that - er - not so much to me.

I like Billy Joel, but he's only got about 5 or 6 really stand out pop songs to me. Which is pretty good! It's just that in my mind comparing the two John's work is more influential and interesting overall.

Yeah - that's a really irritating one to me too. I might add Uptown Girl and We Didn't Start The Fire to that list too.

If you actually sit and listen to Joels lyrics you'll find many times they're embarrassingly bad.

                      Big Shot's were horrible

In that song he comes off as a super nag.

I like Joel more. Elton is great but I like Joels songs better - for the most part

I might not be remembering the context of the song properly, but to me it always sounded like he was singing about his overly cautious girlfriend who's getting mad at him for lame things - like 'crashing her party', 'riding his motorcycle in the rain' and 'walking through bedford stuy alone'.

So, I don't know if Joel is saying it's actually dangerous to walk through Bed-stuy, or if the point of the song is that it's not a big deal but his girlfriend keeps driving him crazy with all these little things.

I will have to go with the minority and say Mr. Joel for me, although I like Elton John too, Billy's songs have always meant more to me and my top picks are probably "she's always a woman to me", "only the good die young", "Captain Jack", Piano Man" and "My Life" just to name a few. I even like the song " I go to extremes" oh and how could I forget "It's still Rock & Roll to Me", great music!
