    Winnie the Pooh

My wife and I took our boys to see the new Winnie the Pooh movie on Saturday. We really enjoyed it. It's done in the same style as the ones from the late 60's and early 70's. They didn't make the mistake of "modernizing" things. It looks mostly 2-D animated. There's even a nice cartoon short at the beginning that has a real 1950's/60's Disney vibe to it.

If you've got young ones (or just enjoy good children's animation) I highly recommend it.

That is so cool to hear

I always loved the 60's-70's Disney ones

I remember seeing one in the theatre in the early 70's

Not sure if it was new (at the time) or a re-release

Shouldn't that be spelt "Pooh" with an "h"?

What is interesting is that Disney showcased this movie on the Indie Film Festival circuit prior to releasing it to the general public. Did very well at SIFF here in Seattle and already WDSHE is pushing the video release.

Glad to see Disney's not totally forgetting their roots...I myself am getting a bit tired of computer animation and 3-D special effects...

Pooh was always a favorite of mine as a young kid....

This looks like such a great movie. It's shocking how classic it looks.

My son was totally disinterested in the trailer this morning. No dinosaurs. I may have to go by myself.

I remember watching the old TV specials narrated by Sebastian Cabot, while clutching my "Pooh Bear", and I'm glad it's done in the classic style. Is Christopher Robin still a girl in this movie?

My kids are way past that age but it looks good. Is the story much different then the classic?

The story is similar in scope and theme to the older ones. I think you could easily show them back to back and they would all fit together well. Plus, Zooey Deschanel does a good job on the theme song.

John Cleese narrates this new one. He's very subdued (which works well) and sometimes even sounds a little like Cabot. it never really dawned on me if Christopher Robin was a boy or a girl. he/she looked just like he/she did in the old ones.
