Stupidity has precious little to do with whether one becomes addicted or not. The world is littered with intelligent people who lost themselves to powerful addictions. Nothing's worse than knowing you're better than that, smarter than that, and yet unable to stop doing something so clearly destructive.
Oh, and the other part of this is you really wouldn't have Rock and Roll, the Blues, Jazz, etc. without substance abuse. so a little appreciation for the "druggies" is in order.Leave a comment:

Well, I think it's a little crude to ridicule the actual death of a celebrity or anyone's death for that matter. That said, there is nothing wrong in ridiculing an artists' WORK. And when artists die, their life's work is usually reexamined. And for me, Kevin Dubrow is nothing more than an unremarkable frontman of a lame pop metal band. I never thought much of his music when he was living and I will not think much of it now that he is dead.
I did not know Kevin Dubrow. I am sure he was a swell human being and well liked by his peers. I don't even fault him for his cocaine use. Yes it's stupid to do cocaine, especially at 52, but human beings are stupid and do stupid things all the time. It's part of being human.
Ike Turner just died today. A HUGE figure in the progression of popular music--and by most accounts, a total SOB. A completely flawed individual. But his contributions to music are almost immeasurable. IMO, It's fair game to discuss his music and his life.Leave a comment:

For all it's worth, I did like their first album, and 'come on feel the noize' was a catchy tune.
Was DuBrow an evil guy for doing coke? Of course not, but it was stupid, especially at his age.
Anyway, I will not target him for his mistake.
RIP dude.Leave a comment:

I've known too many people (close loved ones) that have died NOT by their own hand and wanted to live.
When I see people like this guy, I have no sympathy for them what-so-ever.
That's all I wanna say.Leave a comment:

me
...maybe ever...
....not only was Kevin's persona a huge influence on me,
but for a brief while I knew the guy and I'll forever by connected to him and
his circle because of a series of events that continues to unfold up to this
very day---so when I see him being an "easy target in death" on message
boards
---I have to say my piece for him---because I feel no one else might bother
---its just me behaving outta respect
The thing is though---we even went through a simillar "debate" here when
Anna Nicole passed and I have virtually no feelings towards her one way or
another except that I thought she was a trip---
the thing that connects the two passings is that I found it amazing how
brazen people on this board were to minimize their importance and value-
--merely because they didn't approve of their self-abusive lifestyle---we're
not talking about murderers or rapists here---we're talking about "goofballs"-
--troubled goofballs at that.
Ever hear of letting someone rest in peace? That's a classy thing---
-I guess I can't imagine being even half as insensitive toward the death of
anyone as (some of) you guys are around here. I'd like to think that that's
to my credit---good upbringing or whatever
We can certainly agree to disagree---but I'm just saying my piece
because you are urinating on the grave of someone I respected
---I think I deserve thatLeave a comment:

By the way----for those interested---here is a link to a tribute page
for Kevin DuBrow----
On this page is documentation of Kevin's many achievements (looks like some
people here believe his work was quite narrow and limited, so this pretty much
dispells that)
Also on this page are many quotes by his peers in the business
commenting on Kevin's impact on them and the music scene in general
Not everyone is going to be sympathetic to a drug users fatal mistake
(I don't blame that mindset---drugs are a crutch for weaker people)--
-and not everyone is going to like his music
(to each their own)---
-but I'd like to think KEVIN DUBROW could be recognized as a worthwhile contributor
to the musical landscape... if only for his positive influences on musicians and rock fans
and for his tenacity in the music business which led him to accumilate a prolific body of
work in 33 years of recording and live shows

But I wont respectfully eulogize anyone who kills themselves.
I don't care if it's Hendrix, dead on a toilet seat Elvis or this guy.Leave a comment:

Hey Mike---you are rude and have some nerve---
I thought you had some respect---not just in general---but towards me--
--guess not
Hope you feel better for being so insensitive and proclaiming itLeave a comment:

Yeah, because "laughing at their stupidity" makes you feel how?
"Righteous"?
Righteous ?
As in Righteous Brothers ?
Now they were pretty good.
This guy,
He made one crumbie song that I always hated --BIG-TIME.....
All I can say as a eulogy --- I ain't gunna miss his sorry ***Leave a comment:

"Righteous"?
Or "laughing" accomplishes what?
It just makes me wonder what the goal is of mocking the dead.
Just what point are you trying to prove by "laughing" at their senseless
death(s)
Not once did I ever imply that anyone should feel sorry for drug users who
kill themselves (altho multiple posts on here would lead you to believe I did)
----I DID however imply that its in bad taste to play judge & jury as well
as urinate on someone's grave---especially so quickly after their passingLeave a comment:
