In my Neighbor state New Hampshire they're legal...which is where Mainers go to buy their Fireworks. At least it was...we just passed a bill to legalize them in Maine. Unfortunately it will be 90 days before it takes effect...not in time for the 4th.

They sell them in FLA for "agricultural" use only. To scare away birds I suppose. Lots of "agricultural" sales tents on the roadsides right now.

Things seemed to have changed here in IL.When i was a kid i remember having to go to Missouri to get firecrackers, bottlerockets etc.Now there seems to be Fireworks stands setup in parking lots all over where you can buy the same thing we used to go to Missouri to get.About ten miles from where i live is a Fireworks "factory" where they make the BIG stuff that is used in all the Major Fireworks Displays in the area(and there are alot of them).Every town around does a display, the town i live in did there Fireworks "show" on June 26th.Anybody that wants to buy the BIG stuff and do their own show only has to get a "permit" signed by their Fire Chief. The only other stipulation,at least in my town is the "show" Must end by 10:00 which doesn't always happen. You will hear fireworks, two weeks before and two weeks after the 4th around here.

I saw a County police car driving all through the neighborhood yesterday (even came up our cul-de-sac). The only possible thing I could think of was that he was looking for illegal fireworks and getting ready to ticket anyone who had thoughts. It was actually pretty quiet in our neighborhood last night.

Its illegal here in Denver, Colorado to launch anything that leaves the ground. Which means I have to go to Wyoming to get the good stuff. Last year I received a 999.00 citation for shooting off the "good fireworks." This year we enjoyed a fine display of sparklers, smoke bombs, snakes and the little pops that look like they are wrapped in tisue paper.

I personally think our law is stupid.

Morgan County doesn't seem to have this problem. The only time I notice you can't set them off is when there's a burn ban in effect.

Tho technically illegal in NY, years ago the cops turned a blind eye to fireworks most of the time. The most renowned display other than the official Macy's event was John Gotti's neighborhood, (the famous Mobster in Howard Beach).

I had a friend in an area nearby Gotti's neighborhood and I left his house one 4th and the trash cans were all set ablaze on every corner, people shot off whatever they wanted with no fear. You might get the impression you were in a war zone. Then Gotti was thrown behind bars and Guliani the mayor said stop all fireworks and now things are mostly quiet in Queens with a few exceptions.

a couple days late . . . . In Texas we can shoot them out of the city limits in unincorporated areas. This usually means you need to know a farmer or someone who has some land. We go to a place that is ran by a volunteer fire dpt. you make a donantion and gain access to their field. It's a pretty good deal and suports a good cause as well.
