It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World blu-ray

I try to keep up on these things but this one was a total surprise. Mad Mad World is one of my favorite movies and I have been hoping for a blu ray of it. As it turns out, the blu ray is coming as a Walmart exclusive. I just ordered it on the website for $10.

At that price I am not expecting much more than the general release movie (there is a longer roadshow version that was partially reconstructed for laserdisc and the movie in general needs a great restoration that I hope it will get someday) and maybe the extras which were on the DVD (the extra scenes from the laserdisc edit on the side and a documentary) but at that price it may not even have that. No problem, I have all that stuff on DVD.

In other words, all I am expecting for sure is a high def transfer of the general release movie. I have a HD Mad Mad World saved to DVR from Cinemax but it is cropped to 16:9 the blu ray will keep it letterboxed. The movie as shown on Cinemax looked pretty good.

I enjoyed this movie also. Noticed standard DVD pricing has come way down recently. Best Buy has a ton of dvd's at $3.99. You can get the X-men trilogy with Wolverine origins for $16. Bunch of $8.99 Blu Ray's too.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

What a great movie this is! I still giggle like a little school girl during the whole "kicking the bucket" scene.

NICE! Is it the complete cinematic run time version? or the DVD edit or TV edit?

The DVD edit is the general release theatrical version. The roadshow version is longer and was partially reconstructed for the laserdisc. I am assuming that the blu Ray will be the general release edit. The roadshow segments used on the laserdisc need more restoration and they also were from a Cinerama print which was purposely distorted at the sides for use on the Cinerama curved screen.

Restorer Robert Harris hopes to be able to tackle a full restoration of Mad Mad World someday but he would need studio participation.

Love this movie, too. Definitely a desert island selection.

The blu ray is truly fantastic! One of the best older film transfers since The Ten Commandments!
