    Gold Cup...4 teams left

    U.S. vs Panama
    Mexico vs Honduras

U.S. lost against Panama last week but easily beat Jamaica yesterday. Bradley looked like he was giving some new players an opportunity to play and they looked pretty bad. I don't expect the U.S. will take any more risks with new players unless they are up by 2 or 3 goals and want to give some of their players a rest.

Unless there is a shocker; it looks like it will be U.S./Mexico playing for the Gold Cup title.

Is the Gold Cup a friendly or a real cup competition?

Real cup competition. The winner is invited to play in the Confederations Cup along with the winners from the other FIFA regions, the World Cup winner (Spain) and host country also receives and automatic invitation.

Some may remember in 2009, the U.S. didn't get off to a good start but advanced to the knockout stages. They stunned Spain, went on to play Brazil in the championship and were winning most of that game but ended up losing 3-2.

It should work out to be USA vs. Mexico in the finals unless there is an upset.

For anyone who has never watched USA and Mexico play each other in soccer...it is worth watching. They are just about equal in talent, know each other's style of play well and go at one another more than just about any other two teams I have seen play.

            Yeah...I'm watching it of course.

I always root for the USA unless they play Mexico...sorry...but I grew up with the Mexican team...plus I hate Landon Donovan...lol.

Yes...they are just about equal in talent...both are fast teams...the USA has a better aerial game...Mexico is a better possession team.

I'd give the goalkeeping edge to the USA.

The best pure scorer is Chicharito Hernandez.

Historically I'd give it to Mexico (which has an overall edge in head-to-head games)...especially since the USA has never beaten Mexico in Mexico...the USA always seem to have a hard time at Estadio Azteca and its altitude.

The Gold Cup is being held in the USA of course...but the crowds are always split when they play here...lots of beaners here as well...lol.

I see USA vs Mexico in the final...it's a pick 'em game.

            A little Gold Cup history...

Chicharito is an awesome player....Altidore is also a very good player...an excellent player (yet to be seen) but did strike an incredible goal against Jamaica from distance.

I do know the crowd will be split 50/50. If they both make it (they are both favored); I only give the edge to the USA because it is being played in the U.S. and we have a high winning % against Mexico on US soil. If it were in Mexico, hands down Mexico would win. You are right about Azteca and altitude issues. I know FIFA at one time had considered banning the stadium for FIFA sanctioned games because of this very issue but I don't think it went anywhere.

Sad that I bet most Americans can not name more than one or two U.S. players and not more than 6 or 7 top soccer athletes. My wife who is into soccer did not know that David Beckham was not from the United States...no kidding.

I'd be willing to bet that most people on this board (without googling) can not name what country Lionel Messi plays for or his club team but I bet almost everyone can name the NFL team that Peyton Manning plays for, Alex Rodriguez, and LeBron James. I'd even go out on a limb and say most people know who Sidney Crosby is...what sport he plays and the team he play for....

Well...no shocking surprises here...USA beats Panama 1-0...and Mexico goes into overtime to finally beat Honduras 2-0.

                      Great game!

Mexico comes from behind...to score four goals in a row...and win the Gold Cup 4-2.

That last goal from Giovani Dos Santos was simply awesome (the game's MVP)...the goal of the tournament.

Big props for the USA...tough team...but Mexico was simply relentless today...

Mexico automatically goes to the Confederations Cup.

Giovani Dos Santos' goal was a beauty...
