The teams pick names to garner respect and honor and/or history (Steelers, Patriots, Eagles etc) They don't dishonor indians any more than they would pick a name (N- word?) such as losers, idiots or hairy droolers.

Redskins is a racial slur. No way to dance around that or sugar coat it. Using a racial slur doesn't honor anyone. Not to mention team Mascots like Baseball's Chief Wahoo are the equivalent of the derogatory stereotype caricatures once used to depict African Americans.

I'm not totally against using Native American names and characters as team names and mascots as rule. But I do find it irritating when they are obviously used in an offensive way.

This has nothing to do with political correctness. It fails at satire because it is so poorly done. It reads as the rantings of a mentally challenged psychopath. Politically correct or incorrect, it's just not funny. It's creepy.

That's the beauty of humor; what's funny to some isn't to others. What a boring world it would be without a few twisted laughs.

White people do not have a history of oppression and being treated like animals by Native tribes. Redskin is a racial slur. Maybe most sports fans don't know this or if they do, they just don't care. It's like having an NFL team called the N-word.

That is so wrong when you take into account the reasons for the nicknames. Teams tend to choose names from the indians such as Braves, Redskins and the such due to the respect these people have for their bravery and tenaciousness. It reminds me of a story my uncle from Arizona sent me several years back. It seems that there was a group of Native Americans that were so offended by the Indian nicknames in American sports (Redskins, Indians, Braves etc.) that they named their school team "The Fighting Whiteys".

I'm offended by the scale of that tree on the cover art. It makes me want to commit herbicide. I mean look at that thing, it's towering over that burning building. And is it somehow flame retardant? I mean by the time that building was ablaze the tree should have been reduced to a smoldering pile of ash, but alas it stands tall, almost proud, above the structure of concrete and steel. And yet there is no mention of this anywhere in the text. What if someone mistook this blatant misrepresentation of vegetation as fact? Who's laughing now, huh? It's all fun and games until someone loses their grip on reality.

After the story got out, the requests for fighting whiteys jerseys overwhelmed the tribes mail. (I should mention that my wife is 1/2 Algonquin Indian.) Anyway, they returned to the old team name in frustration.
If we all could learn to laugh WITH each other (not AT each other) the world would be a much brighter place

This makes me laugh. I live in NC. The next town over from me is Cherokee NC. The big reservation. I work in Cherokee and have several friends there including some of my closest. Whenever something like this hits the news i am reminded when i first moved here i was told by several full blooded tribe members that the name of there own school is the Cherokee Braves. How's that for laughing with each other?
