Do your internet friendships and real-life friendships coincide?

Many of us (like those who just attended Mego Meet), have been fortunate enough to have their internet friendships blossom into real ones. Speaking from personal experience, Jessica and I have become really good friends in the last 3 years. Shawn (Falcon, not to be confused w/ THE Falcon), and I are also really good friends, albeit long-distance ones. Last year, I went on the RS cruise w/ a woman I've been internet friends w/ for the last decade and met for the first time on that cruise.

But then there are those, (also speaking from experience), who don't think internet friendships should go anywhere beyond the anonymity of the computer. They are content to laugh, cry, joke, argue and advise via the World Wide Web, and never want to venture into the real world w/ their so-called "friends".

So which of these are you?

I don't think anyone who knows me via the internet should meet me in real life as you know what they say.........................

You should never meet your Heroes.

I've met only a few of my internet buddies and it's been a cool experience....but for the most part all we have in common might be collecting toys....my friends in real life are nothing like my internet friends..besides my brother I probably only have 2 friends that collect toys, and they started cause of me

But i have no doubt there's a bunch of people here that i'd be really good friends with in real life if I ever met them....there's quite a few actually but off the top of my head
Hector,Jason,Brad,Jamie,Steve(Kingdomwarrior),Mego apesnut ...Just cause I have a lot of stuff in common with those guys Cars,Sports, women & toys

even though I'm reconsidering Hec because of this lovely avatar i have lmao!

All of my internet friends are on Mego Museum ... no other sites.

I don't have many friends in "real life" --- mostly just acquaintances.

So for me, Mego Museum is it.

I used to be the latter up until I made some really great friends in my city who were also on the old Warren Ellis forum who were terrific people in real life as well as online.

However, the big game changer for me was coming last year to Mego Meet. Even though I only had face-time once prior with just about everyone, it really was kind of a home coming feel for me.

I really like meeting you guys on here since we all share the same sickness for megos LOL, thats what my wife calls it. It was very cool meeting people at the meet, very good people and my wife says it like a big family reunion in a sense. I have been to 4 meets so far and I don't recognize everyone in person from here. I wish Ed and some of the other westcoast guys could attend, it really awesome and everyone is so nice.

I'm of the same mind as Mikey and david b... I'm a lonely guy tucked away from the real world 90% of my waking hours.

Back when I played World of Warcraft, I met a bunch of guildmates at a guild BBQ. My guild leader and about 25% of the folks are from the area and I knew them already. The rest of the people--some came from as far as San Antonio and Houston--were really cool to meet and although we only really talk every so often on Facebook, I consider them real friends. If they came around here or I was in their area, we'd definitely get together, but you know how every day life can be. The weird thing is, having never met those people before, when we did meet, it was like long lost friends--like we'd known each other forever like old schoolmates. Crazy, I know.

this question was asked a few years ago here. i though probably yes for those i communicate with regularly and/or have met personally.

but the feeling i get from community here and more so at mego meet over the years (this is unlike a cold chat forum and the meet is unlike any a comic con or any other con - it is a club gathering, not a commercial venue) suggests these are real friendships

I know these are real friendships because of the way i feel when bad news is posted about you and your families - heart attacks, cancer, floods, divorces, etc - i am saddened and concerned they way i am when my local friends suffer. i am happy to hear your good news - usually finding that "grail" or having a new mego collector come into the world.

Some do and some don't. It depends on the situation and more importantly the location. I have a bunch of friends in the UK that I hope to visit some day but it's not like I can just hop in the car and make a road trip to go see them.

I have met quite a few of my fellow Kawasaki enthusiasts. And a few have become close friends. One of my close friends lives in Saint Paul, MN and we stop by and visit whenever we go the the Mall Of America. I have another good friend in NY that we see when we are vacationing on the farm in North East PA.

Hopefully we can make it to MEGO meet next year and meet some of you crazy people.
