Coming back after a 7 hour blackout

When it is one of the hottest days of the year, what else can happen?

Why the power poops out because of the increased usage.

Shortly before 5 pm the power went out and it was after midnight when it went back on.

No internet, no TV, no air conditioning, no problem.... okay it was a bit of a problem and I was a bit irritable when it dragged on.

The computer voice on the phone said it would be back on by 8 at first and when I got back from having dinner out after 8 it was still off and the computer voice said it would be 11 pm. 11 pm came and it was still not on (grrrr).

Anyway, it came back a little after midnight and I feel reconnected to the Western world again

That really sucks. Sometimes we get those mandatory blackouts, which I hate,(especially when they're at night! )Did you get to record Sealab?

Wow! That really sucks man. Glad to hear that you are back in power again.

I was out power one time for like three days. I can kind of feel your pain. I kept flipping on the light switches out of habbit. Some times we just do not realize what we have until it is gone.

A big concern of mine is the population keeps growing bigger and bigger by the year. More people = more power consumption. I just wonder some times how much more the power grid can take?

Nope, Not to worry though, they are running it everyday and there are only 13 episodes plus 3 unaired ones which I don't know if they are in the rotation or not.

But I missed my news shows and more importantly South Park.

When I lived in Alabama in 1979, we had Hurricane Fredrick ( the first hurricane named after a guy) and we were without power for 2 weeks.

Then here in New York, we had the Ice Storm in the 90's. Trees coated with ice and branches breaking off and falling from the weight (sometimes the tree itself) and nailing power lines. We were without power for 3 weeks.

I sometimes wonder how I got through it because when we have the occasional outage here I'm going nuts. 7 hours was the longest one we had in a while. News said it was an overloaded transformer. The fact that the nearby nuclear plant (a little over 100 miles away) was down for matainance and not providing power might have had something to do with it too. But considering what might happen when nuclear power plants aren't maintained, i don't mind a possible outage too much to make sure everything is up to snuff.

After hours they never restore electric in less than 4 hours.

This is so the repair men (working on overtime) get at least an extra day's pay.

Many times they stretch it out even more

That happen to us about three weeks ago when we received a brief storm that cranked up 65 mile an hour winds. It took them over TEN HOURS to reconnect one small line that had dropped in the neighborhood over from us. That happened at 11:40 that night and I didn't get power back until 10:15 the next morning. Since I work from home, I was seriously compromised. Man was I ticked off. Resolution? I have since bought myself a gas powered generator to run my computer so my work is no longer jeopardized by our lame power company.

Man! Sounds like you have definitely had more than your fair share of serious power outages.

That is usually the norm here in the Midwest as well. The only difference is that the power company is usually pretty good about getting things fixed in a reasonable amount of time considering what they have to fix and or deal with.

At that rate me to. The past events you described is a LOOOONG time to be without power. I don't see how you did it. Those make my one time experience look like a cake walk compared to yours.

Yeah, I would much rather be safe than sorry any time.
