Antoher Tech Question - What Wireless Router Do I Need?

I have some cheap $40 wireless router (Linksys, 2 years old) and a cheap laptop (Toshiba Satellite). The laptop was a day after Thanksgiving Office Depot buy for $300 plus I added a 1024 memory card. I cannot complain, it has paid for itself through Ebay.

My problem is, every time my wife gets on our cordless telephone or uses the microwave oven, i get booted off the internet. Is this due to my computer or the router?

I told her I want a more powerful router for Christmas so this does not happen again.

    My laptop has a 802.11 b/g card.

    Any help??

I have never heard about microwave interference, but at work our central IT department made us all get rid of a specific model of cordless phone because its frequency was known to interfere with wireless. You may still have the same problem if you swap out your router and keep the phone. I have a $40 Linksys, and I love it. About two years old like yours, idiot proof to set-up, and trouble free since.

Would getting a new card and router (N router, etc) work?

Sounds like you've got a 2.4mhz phone and an old microwave?

Looks like I may have a bad microwave oven. It is not very old (5yrs), but if it is not sealed correctly, it may be dangerous.

I am calling some appliance places right now.

          I do have a 2.4 phone.

Yeah, I'd look into getting a non-2.4 GHz cordless phone. It should be cheaper than buying a new N router and card, unless you have a lot of phones. Hang onto your receipt so you can test the new phone and return it if it still causes problems.
