It's soft ware and a USB stick that has an antenna attached. It was very easy to attach. It will record HD but you better have a very large hard drive.
If your using it on your PC don't plan on doing any thing else at the same time takes up most of the prossesor.

These were $59.99 at Best Buy on Black friday. I bought one for myself but haven't tried it yet. Wanted one for my son's Mac but they don't stock that one and they're machine specific.
