    Questions for Sandy

I'm currently watching Jurassic Park on TV and was doing some internet snooping during commercials.

It say's Sandy created the Jurassic Park logo.

That's about the coolest thing ever

    I have a few questions .....

    1. Is this the logo with the T-Rex skeleton ?

    2. Did they give you an idea of what they wanted before you began ?

    3. The fonts of this logo are used in the movie itself ... Were these created by you as well ?

    4. Was there other designs submitted but not approved ?

    Thanks

I want to know if that guy from SyFy ever approached him about buying his stuff and if Sandy beat him with his fishing pole.

Sandy has stated that it was a group effort on that Jurassic Park logo.

Correct. I worked as part of a team that was responsible for all the logos and branding in the film. I also designed a TON of posters that never got used...

From what I can recall, I was given the Michael Chriton book, which had a T-Rex skeleton on it. Steven liked that and told me to incorporate it into the imagery I was working on. Again, from what I can remember, I put it in a circle with the type across the front. The original background I did for it was more of a yellow to red fade, but the final logo was all red in the circle with a yellow outline. I also did some 3-D sculpted posters that looked pretty cool too. One of them was used in the actual film.

Chip Kidd details the design of the Jurassic Park book cover in one of the retrospective books covering his portfolio of book covers.

What you guys did with that skeleton for the movie is pretty iconic.

To a generation of kids, that logo is as important as the Star Wars logo was to us.

Sandy - any memories about the lettering? Was it hand made or was it an established typeface?

I really love that logo - for me it was one of those rare details where the film's promotional work made watching the film even better. It just sold the theme park vibe for me that much more.
