Interview on my new vintage Banana Republic blog

Banana Republic Memories from staff artist Kevin Sarkki | Abandoned Republic

I started a blog a few weeks ago to archive my collection of Banana Republic catalogs. Then I got in touch with one of the cover artists and hit the motherload of rare scans and cool behind the scenes information. It's a cool look at a young creative company and what happened as it got bigger and more successful.

Cool article....it's strange to see how some retailers morph over time. I can remember when Abercrombie and Fitch was a store that basically sold nice men's business attire (ties, button down shirts, suits, etc.)....now all they seem to sell is sex appeal and teenager type clothing with their logo and name plastered all over it.

Yes, the fact that a funky surplus clothing company grew into a super slick European style sportswear company is remarkable. Most people who shop at BR now have no idea what it used to be.

As a Graphic Artist myself, this has multiple appeal not just for the company itself, but also for the history of company growth in general and also the history of intriguing art and production!
                It's all good!
