    Advice needed, lost package

I am at a loss on what to do so I could use some advice. I am sorry if this gets a little long, i just want to explain all the details.

On May 10 I bought some figures of ebay, around $75.00 worth, not a lot but it is for me. Anyway I go and make the payment and when it completed I look over the order details and it listed my old address, not my new one.(where we have been for the last month) I went and got ahold of Paypal right away and they corrected the address error. I then chat with an ebay rep and she fixes the address and assures me that I will get my package. I even send the seller an ebay mail and regular email explaining the situation with my correct address.

Well, the package is shipped and I am following the tracking. Everything looks good and it was on the truck for delivery on Saturday, well it never showed up. I check the tracking later Saturday night and this is what it says:

Sorting Complete, May 21, 2011, 9:37 am, TUCSON, AZ 85710
Forwarded, May 21, 2011, 9:29 am, TUCSON, AZ

The problem here is, that's not my zip code. My zip is 85748. I contact the post office yesterday and they have no idea why it was forwarded to 85710. I contact the seller and he says he remembered my email and when he went to print the label through PayPal it listed the new address.

Does anybody have any idea why this happened? Am I out the money since it wasn't insured with the Post office? I really can't file a claim with PayPal since the seller did everything he was supposed to do. Even if it went to the old address, shouldn't packages be forwarded just like the mail?

Any advice anyone can give me would be great.

It's possible the 85748 zip might be a central post office where it goes to be sorted before it finally goes to you.

Example, when I lived in NW Jersey my mail used to go to Jersey City (50 miles away from me) before it moves on.

If my neighbor sent me a letter it would go to Jersey City then come back to me.

Call your PO up and ask them if that's what might be happening with you

I think it will get to you, especially since the tracking doesn't say delivered.

So did the seller put your new address and zip? The post office goes by zip code first, so if the zip is wrong it will go to the wrong Post Office then eventually get routed to the correct place based on the city, state.

It doesn't sound like you have any problem. Sometimes packages take bizarre tracks before they make it to your doorstep. I've had some packages sit in a sorting center for days before moving again. I think your fine. I would give it this week to get to you. I feel confident it will.

I used to mail some peoples paychecks from the NYC Board of Ed and we had the correct address on the envelope but for some reason it went to Albany, NY which is part of the way to Canada from here. It came back and there was never an explanation. Things just get messed up sometimes.

I've also found, when I've been making a shipping label, that the Post Office can have a zip of a location that is different from what the person I'm sending to lists. I've had that a few time when printing a label through Paypal. If I use the buyers confirmed Paypal address I get an error message that I'm not using the Post Office approved address for that location and have had to manually make changes - sometimes the zip or using an abbreviation instead on spelling out a word. All the packages I've had to do that to showed up, so as long as it's in your town and has a tracking number it should arrive.

"I contact the seller and he says he remembered my email and when he went to print the label through PayPal it listed the new address."

I'd wait it out, since the package should return to the sender (I've had that happen a few times..). As long as you've told the seller your current address and he acknowledged he'll send it there.. Not sure WHY the post office would reroute..

Other Option..? Once returned, have the seller send it to your work or a trusted neighbor.. At this point, all you can do is wait for it to show up back at the seller.

I recentely had some trouble with a British eBay seller for a Space 1999 picture. First one came ALL bent and creased (bad packing..), but a month later I FINALLY received the replacement pic in good condition. It took a LONG time from the UK, since the seller sent it basically snail-mail.

Just prior to the replacement finally arriving, I had emailed him that I would like a refund if it didn't arrive in 2 weeks, just setting deadlines. Typically it shouldn't take over a month to get a package from the UK. I've lived in Kuwait, I know how long items should take, and the UK postal system shouldn't be that antiquated in comparison. The seller was probably just takin' his sweet time.
                Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

Thank you for all the advice and thoughts on this. At least you were able to make me feel more at ease about this situation. I guess I got frustrated with the post office when they told me they didn't know what happened. I will keep my fingers crossed that these show up soon.

Now that you mention this, you are right. I have had this happen a few times when I went to ship items that I sold.

                  Thanks again.
