    Some stuff I don't get.

Collecting stuff that is broken, beat up and dirty. I'm not talking about stuff you can clean, fix and restore. Fixing stuff and making it like new again is awesome.

    I'm talking about stuff like:

    Rotting old shipping boxes.

I see guys collecting those old brown shipping boxes. I don't get it. Especially when they are really beat up and dirty. Dude, it's a torn up moldy water stained stinking old chunk of card board. It's gross. Throw it away already.

    Beat up ruptured Stretch Armstrongs.

Back in the day they were wicked cool. Great looking and fun to play with. 30 years later they are dirty decomposing bits of crusty latex matted with globs of dried up corn syrup. He's dead Jim. Give the poor guy a decent burial.

And I've got to wonder, don't, like, the wives and girlfriends get really ticked off? "Hey, honey, check out this dirty styrofoam tray with some dried up chunks imbedded in it that used to be Stretch Armstrong. It only cost me 750 bucks! Pretty sweet, huh?"

I'm guessing they are probably not as impressed.

PS: I'm only teasing. So, please don't get mad. This is meant in fun and really more about the odd random thoughts that go through my head than actually criticising anyone's collecting habits. I collect some odd stuff too. But at least they're clean.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I'm not really a collector, so I don't get it either. But to each his own, and that's what makes the world go round!
Those who look outside dream. Those who look within awake.

In all seriousness, especially after seeing some of those hoarder shows, I do kinda worry about the collector mindset at times. When I hear of people collecting (and often paying huge sums of money) for rotten old boxes and filthy dirty unfixable broken pieces of toys I do think there is a line that can be crossed when you are no longer collecting toys and are now just hoarding junk and garbage which really should be thrown away.

I don't know. Maybe I worry too much and I am just over analyzing it.

I've seen some of those Hoarder shows, and I think most of them people and just pigs keeping trash. How can someone justify its a need to keep empty toothpaste tubes and bigmac wrappers.Own what you have ,give Fred Sanford his credit do , its just junk and trash. The people paying all that money for junk are just people with to much money and should share it with the rest of us instead of wasting it.But this is from a guy that is a minimalist.
