It's the combination of drug and steroid abuse...the amount of wear, tear, and stress caused by the physicality of the sport itself...and the year round hectic non-stop brutal schedule...it takes a toll...a big toll...and Vince McMahon and his cohorts keep earning millions and millions for it.

And every single person that drank water or ate food in 1886 is dead today.

        Shocking isn´t it?

Let´s not let this turn into a Bash the WWE thread....

          Nobody is thrashing anyone.

Besides...pro wrestlers are not politicians, religious people...etc...they are just pseudo-celebrities...they are certainly not above criticism.

Plus your comparison is just silly.

One is 25% mortality (which is alarmingly high, especially since most never even made it to the age of 50) from only a little more than a couple decades ago...and the other one you made...dead people from another century.

          Please.

I never understood the actual brutality of wrestling until I saw the movie "The Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke. I always thought it was faked and these guys never took on any real damage. That movie educated me. In retrospect, that statistic fits in line with the reality of the sport. While most of these guys remain famous, they often do not remain financially viable and have no other means to make a living. So they have little recourse than to try and stay in the sport any way possible. This typically means continuing to use steroids and any number of other drugs to manage their appearance and the pain associated with it. It's a sad commentary on the world of Wrestling. These guys deserve to have some form of retirement or program set up to help them after their careers should be over.

Roddy Piper tried in vain to set up an insurance and pension fund for years. They don't even have insurance. It's a shame that the "sport" is not regulated. They are all contract tallent, and there's a double edged sword to it.
I am friends with many wrestlers, and the sad truth is the Wrestler was an accurate portrayal. It is not something you can do for a long period of time, and the pay is there, but many of them blow all their savings. The ones that live clean and know when to bow out, and go behind the scenes often do well. The Suicide rate is staggering as well. Brian Pillman, Mike Awesome, and Chris Kanyon come to mind. all were superb atheletes, but let the road and drugs get to them.

On a lighter note, it was nice to see the Randy Savage tribute on Raw, and CM punk even wore Macho's pink and yellow attire.

                      Another good post... ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Yes, it's sad and unfortunate to keep talking about this...but we would be doing a greater disservice if we keep silent about it...or deny that anything is wrong with this pattern...a lot of things in the world of pro wrestling is wrong...and this has GOT to stop.

I don't know why they always have Andre on these kinds of lists.

                          Yes...I agree.

His death was obviously related to his gigantism...and his ever growing pituitary gland...which eventually caused, enlarged heart/heart disease/heart attack.

Agreed. Lots of good stuff being said here... It's important to remember however, that Vince doesn't twist anyone's arm. As much of megalomaniac as the guy is, a lot of those guys have made very bad decisions both financially and regarding their physical well being, especially the ones that have died prematurely or committed suicide. Those guys are all paid VERY well. Yes, it's grueling and takes its toll on the body, but Vince isn't giving those guys pain killers or steroids. He's running a business... An empire.

                              Just food for thought.
