Photoshop or Illustrator Help

I found an image that I would like to drop on top of another image--would someone be able to cut out the guy in a tophat so I can just have his silhouette and not the star? I am using Powerpoint to create an invitation for our production (don't have access to those programs now)...If I place this current image as is on top of another image, there's a white background...

Anyway, here's the image:

If there is a feature in your program for cut-outs, that should work.
