>call it "The Stoners" while it resembled the Flintstones just enough so the rights holders didn't sue.
As I recall that's how the Flintstones happened. They were originally gonna do an animated Honeymooners but the deal fell through and they didn't want to start over from scratch on the new show. So they made them cavemen and voila!
>I think the Cleveland show proves MacFarlane's creativity is spent.
Well.... I think "stretched" is the better word. He's still funny IF he puts the time in, which is tough to do when juggling three shows, appearances, etc. I'm betting he's capializing on his current "can do no wrong" status with the execs. Not a bad idea, considering how fickle and fleeting the entertainment industry is. Cleveland is a good example: fox WANTED a spinoff and they went with Cleveland 'cos a Quagmire show would be really creepy. (There's a joke about this in a Family Guy episode.) So the resultant show kinda feels halfhearted and phoned in. Maybe becuse it is: I don't know how into it anybody is. (I haven't heard anything after the inception story.)
