"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

And in rare occasions, the bull is actually spared and retired for good...spends the rest of his life breeding.
If I'm reincarnated, and have a choice as either a bullfighting bull or beef steer...I'd take my chances in the ring...the chances of me being killed would be very high...but the thought of getting the matador (and gorging him to death)...makes this a no brainer, lol.Last edited by Hector; May 16, '11, 7:42 PM.sigpicComment

BTW, I've seen both real live bullfights and slaughterhouses...and let me tell ya...slaughterhouses are much more brutal...the amount of blood there...dwarfs anything you see in a bullfight.
And I mean seriously...and I'm not defending bullfighting...but wonder what the bullfighting bull to beef steer ratio is around the world...not in the same universe...lol.
Yes...bullfighting is brutal, but so are the hamburgers we eat everyday...lol.Last edited by Hector; May 16, '11, 7:58 PM.sigpicComment

Look on the Bright Side. 500 years ago the Spanish were killing off Indians and other "unsavoury" types...

The thing about beef steers, it's hard for anyone from the East Coast to imagine how they are raised ... We only imagine how milk cows are raised because that's about all we have.
There is no wide open green pastures where the cows happily and peacefully graze all day without a care in the world.
For the most part that's how us East Coasties think of cows
It's not like that out westComment

Yes, stock yards and slaughter houses are unpleasant. The stench can be overwhelming. We could be more humane in the raising and treatment of the animals that give us sustenance.
Killing a bull in the ring serves no other purpose than to provide sport and entertainment. I can see where some people perceive that stock yards and bull rings are two completely different things.
But really... You want to see some real honest to goodness sport with a one on one between a man and a bull? Forget the picadores and their spears to open up the bulls arteries and bleed it weak, or the banderilleros with their barbed sticks to wear the bull down before the guy with the sword steps in. Give me a healthy seriously pi$$ed off bull and a hero with nothing but his wits to fend el toro off...

I have seen neither in real life and will have to defer to you for this question. Is it more of the gore (blood, etc.) of a slaughterhouse or do animals in slaughterhouses also get maimed, tortured, and die a slow painful death. I'm not trying to be a wise guy because I have seen neither.
All I can say is for you to watch both in person...and come to your own conclusion...
