    Turn signals

No one uses these anymore. At least, 75% of the drivers in my area refuse to use them. Or maybe they are too busy texting to turn the lever one way or another?

Even the police around here fail to signal.

I turn mine on when I am turning into a parking space in a parking lot! I like to telegraph what I am doing to the other drivers.

    Sorry, old man rant.

Around here not using them is a sure way to get a ticket considering how many unmarked police cars there are on the prowel looking for anything wrong.

I rarely seen anyone not use turn signals around here.

This is not a personal knock against the police in any way (my dad was a cop here at one time) but vehicular enforcement around my area is pretty lax, it seems. I hardly ever see anyone pulled over for speeding, or traffic violations of any kind.

Good example here: The street in front of my dad's house was closed off due to part of the street literally caving into a creek that runs below. Despite the fact that there are "ROAD CLOSED" signs on both ends of the street, some people have been going around the barricades and driving through my dad's and his neighbor's yard!

The kicker: his house is about 100 feet across the street from...the Police Station!!!

Nice to know some folks know how to use turn signals somewhere though.

        Totally opposite around here.

Cops will pull people over for as little as not wearing a seat belt

Years ago when I was helping my nephew move a cop pulled me over for not having a red flag on the back of my pick-up because the load overhung just a tad over 2 feet beyond the tailgate.

He didn't ticket me but he did give a verbal warning.

Do you think folks are intentionally not using their turn signals? All they probably need is some of this. LOL

I have noticed that the turn signal message seems to have changed. I was taught that a signal indicates you are planning on moving your vehicle in that direction. Nowadays, it seems to indicate to the other drivers the side that I would like them to pass me on.

As far as I know, at least in CA, a cop cannot pull you over for just not wearing a seat belt. It's more of a citation they write when they stop you for something else, that they just "tack on".

I agree about the signaling thing, though... There would definitely be less accidents if everyone used them. It's something in my opinion, at least, is super simple but is important to let drivers know what you're intentions are.

Earth 2 Chris, I'M your neighbor to the north (Cincinnati) and couldn't agree more. Its a regional thing. Raised in NJ and spent 5 years in NE I have never seen such a lack of turn signal use anywhere else.

Maybe they are afraid that they will have to change their blinker fluid if they use their blinkers too much.

Yeah I have noticed that to some degree around here as well. It is amazing with all of the buttons that people push these days on their "smart" phones and what have you and yet they cannot flick a little lever to indicate they are turning.

Around these parts people just get over when they want to and never mind giving anyone a courtesy click or two.

Courtesy? Hell what is that? Is that when you receive a letter in the mail for jury duty? LOL!!!

Hwy 270 is like the friggin Auto Bahn here. I am so glad that I have cars that are FAST enough to keep up and excel when I need to do so.

Just in the last week I have seen atleast two people turn on the blinker indicating to turn and then they turn the opposite direction. ???? Perhaps this is the new trend? If you want to go left then flip your blinker on right or vice versa.

I will have to give them credit though. Atleast they did use their blinkers. Hey, no one said that it had to be used correctly.

I truly do believe that IF the majority of the people had to retake their license test all over that a lot of them would fail as they should have to begin with.

Do modern vehicles have turn signals? I thought they phased those out?

Seriously though, I rant to my wife about this all the time. Here in Southern California people rarely signal. I find it really annoying when they suddenly cut me off, and then signal AFTER they're already in my lane. I feel like a dying breed of driver because I still use my signals.

Oddly enough, I don't routinely drive 10mph over the speed limit either. I think alot of drivers need to remember that the sign says "Limit" not "Minimum".

I use turn signals and seat belts for my own safety....not really a courtesy. I do understand that it is rude not to use your turn signal but I see it more of a safety issue. It is an infraction that one can be pulled over in Maryland but again I consider it more safety than anything. Also, thankfully, our state has banned cell phone and texting while driving. I don't think the police can pull you over for this exclusively but I have heard stories of them pulling someone over for this very reason and using another reason for the pullover.

Not using a signal is my number 1 pet peeve. Just pure laziness.
