Will the Retro figures be worth anything?

My opinion is no because to many are kept unopen these days. While there were (lucky for us) people who kept figures sealed back then it pales in comparison to the number who do it now. That's why 90's toys aren't worth spit sealed.

I would say yes - to some extent. I think it will depend on which characters are actually produced, how long the line last and which figures are Matty exclusives. I think when it's all said and done some will be worth more than others. How much more remains to be seen.

I agree with all of you too. I'm working on 4 sets of each wave.
I have one open, for the grandkids to play with now.
And I have a set MOC for me, and 1 set for Grandson #1, and a set for Grandson #2.
I brought up the question, because I need a loose Matty GA.
And I don't want to pay $50 for him. And these things are so hard to find it the wild.
I'm a truck driver, so I never know when I will get to go home.
If I mail order them, or ebay. When I get home I have to face the inquisition.
I say we need toys, she says we need to pay bills.
I hate bill, give me toys.

Excellent point! We never had any trouble finding Megos in the Toy Stores. As for play value for Kids...I can't see that they would be any good for that, as the Bodies are so loose they can't even stand up.

I have to say that as like most of us in the community, we have that sentimental thing for this line. I love the memories of old, and new thrills in getting each new wave.
However, I am more than miffed that after 4 waves plus the Matty GL exclusives, the legs are still wobbly. Yes they have improved the waist and are better at standing up straight, but some of us want to play with them with our kids.
I am collecting 2 of each, one to display loose. For wave 4, the only double I have is MM. A beautiful piece, but he wouldn't get by a police sobriety check point. Then i get the new Sinestro which is another beauty just to find the same leg issues.
By now you would think they would get it right. Come on Mattell, fix the damm legs.
They question of these being valuable down the line is mute in my opinion. Its 50/50. I know that when I am gone, my megos will be my daughters, and what she chooses to do with them is unclear. I hope she loves them as an adult like I do. That may lead to her and others spending $ for these down the line because we love them. Time will tell........

I can neer buy a toy for investment reasons, I either buy the for display or not at all. I may waffle on whether to open it for display or not on a potential value but i never buy it specifically thinking this'll be worth money, you'd go nuts and this is what almost killed comics in the 90's it's like day traders in the stock market.
you can't go to a store anymore and hope to find what you're looking for everyone runs in and buys everything up and then hits ebay. i hate it

It would be really refreshing if everyone would just use these toys for what they were meant for, namely play value. Play or display.
I have never bought a toy for my collection for its potential value. If I could only keep one toy, I'd pick my battered Mego Kirk from childhood (value $15?). And I have SW 12-backs, mind you...

If you want to know if they will be valuable in the future all you have to do is give them to your kids if they play with them alot and take them with them when they go to Grama's house or to a friends to play with them then it is a pretty safe bet they may be worth something down the line. My son does play with his (which I think is really cool it gets him away from the PS3 and Computer games for awhile) but I have done something for him that we all wish our parents would have done for us and that is to buy him one of each to play with (yes open up and play with) and one of each to put up for him for when he gets older (that way he wont have to pay out the ear like we do for our Megos).
So to ask here if we think they will be worth alot in the future I dont really think you will get a really accurate answer. If you would have asked our parents back in the day if they thought Megos would have been worth alot in the future they probably would have looked at you and said "That junk heck thats not a toy they dont make good toys anymore heck that piece of crap wont even last to see the future"

Ask this question to all those grown men who would wait outside toy stores in the early 90's before they opened, to buy up every single re-issued, steroid victim, Star Wars figure they could pry from poor kid's hands. I actually remember people REALLY thinking that those stupid things would be worth a lot of money... So stupid.

Like others have said; The remegos have awesome play value and that's RAD.

If you buy them, I think whatever you choose to do with them is pretty much your business. Some people display them. Some play with them. An still some flip them for a profit in a trade or sell arrangement. And their all on this forum daily. For myself, if they look good, I treat them like a piece of artwork. I will buy them to display. If they attract the kid in me, I'll go one step further and pull them out to pose them. And finally if they have fulfilled their usefulness and take up space I need for other figure lines, then I may sell them. Toys are a flexible commodity like anything of value.

Only time will really tell the true value of the figures. I would not buy them for an investment though. By the time we would see any REAL would be value from them I would think that we would be long gone and our kids would have grey hair waiting.

I really want the line to continue to make more figures. The more the better. I hope this happens and continues to be possible in the future for a very long time.
