The same is true of central Ohio. Plenty of chains, and a few indy shops that are pretty good, but nothing great. People around here like Donatos, with its cardboard crust and little square slices.Comment

That said, there are no great pizza places in Cincinnati, just a local place that is decent.
We have a good pizza joint in town called Leono's. Even the out of town folks that come in for business like it, so it's not just us yokels.
Some folks swear by Angilo's here, but their dough is like floured cardboard, and their cheese is made by Good Year. They have good strombollis though.
The best pizza I had in this area was oddly enough at the Lexington Legends minor league baseball park. I can't remember the name, but it was huge slices, New York style. Man it was great. Now they've replaced it with Hunt Brothers pizza which is a local chain that is essentially just frozen pizza that bars and quicky marts in the area serve.

People will argue that Grimaldi's in Brooklyn is the Best Pizza around...but...those people usually aren't from Brooklyn!!!
If you want pizza that says 'New York' the moment you bite it, it's gotta be L & B's in Brooklyn:

You trying to start a fight between NY & NJ or something??? I've never heard anyone brag about Pizza in NJ Hec. I never heard anyone say "the best Pizza in NJ is...". I'm sure they have some good pizzerias, family owned-not chains like Papa Johns, Domino's or Pizza Hut.Last edited by johnmiic; Apr 30, '11, 11:17 PM.Comment

There are a few good Pizzeria's in Queens, NY I know of. The best known is the Corona Pizzeria from the neighborhood I grew up in. This guy has been in business since the `64 Worlds Fair or thereabouts. I think the father retired a couple of years ago and his son runs it now so quality may have slipped a bit. I don't go back to the neighborhood for his pizza as I can't stand to visit the old place since I moved. The neighborhood is overcrowded and traffic can be really bad.

Just accross the street is The Lemon Ice King of Corona as seen on opening credits of The King of Queens:

There's Rosa's Pizzeria in Middle Village, NY. The Sicilian pie is great. Thick red sauce topped with powdery parm cheese.

There is another place in Middle Village near Grand Avenue but I can't recall the name at this time.
My friend Nick, also took me to a pizzeria in Manhattan near Bleecker St. which is supposedly the first Pizzeria in Manhattan, NY. I did some searching on the web and I think this is it, John's Pizzeria:

OK, I know the south isn't known for pizza, but there is an Italian place in Memphis called Colletta's that has fantastic pizza. It was one of Elvis' favorite joints back in the day. They still have an Elvis room packed with a lot of cool memorabilia. It's near the Civil Rights Museum, which is the renovated motel where Martin Luther King was assassinated.
I love the Italian sausage and mushroom, but their Barbecue Pizza is a blend that can't be beat.Comment

Come to think of it "Nancy's" in Chicago was pretty good."Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."Comment
