did you ever have to give up on a dream?

Well, maybe not a dream. But a long term project.

Old cars are among the many tangential fascinations that distract me from things I am supposed to be doing. Mostly air cooled VW, but I went through a Pontiac phase a long while back.

I picked up a 1963 Bonnevile that needed a new engine and some TLC with the intent of putting a big bomber back on the roadways, but have never quite finalized the deal.

I pulled the engine and rebuilt the insides, then I found a crack in the frame up front, and sort of stalled out. It has been sitting ever since and is most probably in the 'basket case' world now.

There are many reasons why I should just ditch the old girl, but somehow I can't bring myself to do it. It is my hoarder nature, I suppose. Even typing this, I can envision a moment when I will have enough time and money to throw into her to get her rolling again. That and knowing there is a fellow from the local Pontiac community that I cannot stand that would come knocking if I offered her up.

Hard times and tough decisions. :(

Yes. No more ape stadium for me. It's too impossible with my other projects...plus what am I going to do with it when I am done?

Never! I know Pamela Anderson wants me (she just has not realized it yet)

Just like Jim Carey said in one of his movies (I forgot which one) "A snow balls chance is still a chance".

And the dream does not end there..... My gf would totally approve!

The problem is all of you set your standards way too high. When I was a young nerd collecting toys I wanted to live long enough to be an old nerd collecting toys. Living the dream, baby!!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

My dream of becoming prima ballerina for a prestigious New York company was foiled by Natelie Portman when I was her understudy during a contemporary performance of Swan Lake, where I would have held the dual roles of both the virginal White Swan and the sensual Black Swan.

I had no idea there was so much unrequited love going on around here.

wolfie - I am glad to know you are living your dream.

russ - don't get me started on trucks; that is another of my old car woes. I have a '67 GMC that I need to get out of my driveway as well. Every time I start to put the for sale sign in the window, I think of 1000 things that trucks are good for and I falter. sigh

I really do need to thin the herd outta the stable.

In college, I had to give up my dream of playing baseball competitively at a top-25 Division 1 school. A throwing-arm shoulder that I separated one-too-many times and torn cartilage in a knee that dropped my speed from a 4.4 40-yard-dash to a 4.6 were the deal-breakers. I took my freshman year off to build strength, but during my sophomore year, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to be back where I was before. I was just a walk-on originally, but was hoping to work my way up to situational pinch-hitter/pinch-runner/defensive replacement by my senior year. Too much potential rehab time and practice time and not enough classroom time were the icing on the cake. There was no way I could lose baseball, and a college degree to an injury, so I cut my losses while I could. Still, not a day goes by that I don't miss the game.
