Any "fine" art experts? Please help.

We were watching the 1983 ABC Made For TV Classic (and I use the term "Classic" lightly) "The Day After"... when in the background we saw a most interesting painting.

I need to know the name.

This painting is just too goofy for words, and I think I now need a copy to hang in my hallway by the bathroom door.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It would be more funny if it was hung in the bathroom.

I wonder if it's just some kind of modern joke painting based on Gilbert Stuart's famous colonial portraiture... it looks an awful lot like one of his Thomas Jefferson portraits, but I cannot imagine him ever painting something whimsical like that.

It's "Le Discret," by Joseph Ducreux... it occasionally makes the round as an internet meme along with some of his other paintings:

Considering almost all of my higher education came from U.S. Govt grants, and got my degree in communication arts, I figured I gotta pay back every cent when I can.

...and I think Ducreux is very underrated and he's not widely known. He has painted many works like this and it's obvious he had a lot of fun with his compositions. Whomever was the first person to conceive of his portrait to use as the lolcat inspired meme, I thank you!

He really was ahead of his time, which is why I thought that was a modern parody.

                            Hilarious and fascinating.

I declare him to be a time traveler from the 21st Century. It's the only reasonable conclusion.
