Better late then never. Dave is way past his prime, but I still hope they give a good Hard Rocking VH album. The new VH album can go compete up against the new Chickenfoot album also due out later this year to be titled- Chickenfoot IV.

Per Eddie Trunk, the band is finishing up the new record for release this year. Here's the article...
Now I will own the new Chickenfoot album. I was a little disappointed with the debut album, considering the amount of talent there. But I feel the new one will make amends. I have less prospects on a new VH album, simply because Dave is too old to sing a new variation of "Everybody wants some". They were the ultimate party band back in the late 70's and early 80's with Roth. And their songs reflected that. Great stuff. I just can't see them selling that image again at their age. It no longer fits them. They also no longer have their iconic back vocals from Michael Anthony. That and Eddie has not been playing well for some time (for obviously good reasons). Hopefully he can pull something out for this record. I definitely would love to hear a good one from him. It's just been so long. I wish Van Halen the very best though. We'll see...
We must have similiar taste in music. I agree with the debut of Chickenfoot, I thought it was good, nowhere near what they can give us though. Yet I really wonder if the 2nd Chickenfoot will be much different since I did hear Sammy say that Chickenfoot is all about fun, they are making it sound like more of a jam session rather then putting good time in to put together a hard rock album, time will tell for sure.

On March 11, 2011, Sammy Hagar confirmed that the band had been recording with Mike Fraser, a Canadian producer, engineer, and mixer. He also confirmed that they have 12 songs worked up and that some of titles are, 'No Change,' 'Who's Next,' 'Astral Years,' and 'I Ain't Got You, I Got The Two By Blues.' The official title for the new album is "Chickenfoot IV" (four). Sammy Hagar says "It's the working title, but I guarantee it'll stick.",[17] "Chickenfoot IV" is due to be released in fall 2011 with the album cover being in 3-D.[18] Hagar also stated the band are also planning to do a third, fourth, and greatest hits albums sometime in the future.[19] Joe Satriani recently[when?] confirmed that 'Come Closer' and a song called 'Setting Sun' are to also be on "Chickenfoot IV" [20]
The only time I ever thought Hagar was consistent in decent releases was the 3 or 4 album run right after leaving VH for the first time... I'm not really a fan of Hagar's brand of rock (in VH or otherwise) mostly
because, on the whole, I find what Hagar does to be vanilla and
faceless ... but, again, that aforementioned run had some really decent songs IMHO (Marching To Mars, Little White Lies, Mas Tequila etc)
And... Chickenfoot is a step down from that kinda quality material IMHO.
And... The worst stuff I ever heard Sam release (or that i ever heard VH release) was the 3 Hagar reunion tracks back around 2004... I mean, it
wasn't just "bad" material IMHO, even worse, it sounded atrociouisly
awkward and embarassing.
On the flip side, you have the 2 Roth reunion tracks circa 1996 where
I thought they really made solid material... so, yeah, with that said,
there's good reason IMHO that a 2011 VH album could/should be TONS
better than a 2011 Chickenfoot album.
The thing is though, I'm not holding my breath for the VH album
to actually be finished and released... they've been on the brink
of finishing an album before (since their mid 90s quasi-reunion)
and then they've ended up scrapping it.

I loved VH back in the day, both versions. But after they booted Sammy I lost all respect for those guys and nothing they have done since has changed my opinion. Eddie is a train wreck and the brothers are very strange. No interest what soever in the new record
In my older years I have become an old sch-tickler when it comes to stuff like this. When it comes to Van Halen, I have learned to wait until a product is actually in my hands or a tour has been scheduled.
Eddie Van Halen seems to have some unpredictable characteristics in his older, non booze years. So, like I said we'll see.
It must be good to be Sammy Hagar. My friend was a Sammy Hagar impersonator for many years in a band called 5150. The drummer from Quiet Riot came into a club and heard him sing and now he is fronting Quiet Riot.
That's a dream of a lifetime. Those tribute bands we'll get you somewhere if you're good a something. Go Sammy!
I think there's an obvious spin that Dave & Eddie can put on the old classics to make them more relevant:
Somebody get me a doctor - I've fallen and I can't get up
Everybody wants some Viagra
Hot for fiber
Intruder on my lawn
Dentures Gone Bad
House of Pancakes
Seriously, Me Wise Magic and CGTSNM were decent efforts. If they continue on that road I think it could be OK. If they go nostalgia like Dave's Slam Dunk crap I'll pass.

Dude, that was like 1996 they combined efforts on that. They have since broke up, done other things and then got back together for the tour that I call the "cash and grab tour" Hey, they have to eat!
The reunion tour gross millions! Hey where's Mikey???
In all reality I would think the new efforts are either going to suck bad or at least be halfway decent.

Yet it can be used as a solid point of reference showing there was indeed "life after 1984" ... WAY after 1984.
Especially poignant in contrast to the Hagar reuinion tracks a few years
later, which most agree were inferior to the Roth ones.

I could take or leave "Mikey"... as long as Dave and Ed are together
I'm satisfied.
Call the tour whatever you'd like... I still look at it as a prudent move...
them not jumping to the "reunion ALBUM tour" part of the reunion plan
prematurely and wasting the impact of the preceding
"albumless reunion tour" ....which they've completed and now are
ready for that next step... IF it gets there w/an actual album release to tour on.

Being a Roth apologist I know I'll at least think a new VH album will be
better than "suck"--- altho' I admit that I know it might be because I'm biased....
But at the same time... I'd STILL be pleasantly surprised if I enjoyed it
more than MWM/CGTSNM.
