How do I remove odors from toys/action figures?

Hi everybody. What is the best way to remove odors from action figures? I found many of my old Mego's and other action figures from 30 yrs ago, problem is they were stored in my parents basement since and they all have a odor.I already let them sit out in a empty room for a week, no change. Is there anything I can do? And does that effect the value at all?

    Thanks

Some will put said figure/toy in a plastic ziplock bag with a dryer sheet. Seems to work real well removing odors and cigarette smoke smells.

That works well. You might also want to seal them in a bag with baking soda.

The baking soda doesn't need to be on the figures - just in the bag.

Yeah, a couple of dryer sheets and a plastic bag works for me. Wrap the dryer sheet around the figures and seal the bag shut. I usually leave mine in for a week, but that might be overkill.

I've used dryer sheets and they do work good, but i'm always afraid to let the sheet touch the cloth of the figure for any extended amount of time --- fearing something chemical might happen to the cloth.

I would go with the dryer sheet method as mentioned as a first plan of attack. If that doesn't work; I would remove the clothing and soak them in Woolite/water solution and give the plastic figures a quick soak in cold soapy water with a light towel dry.

dryer sheet method works well....except on the Apes figures for some reason. i don't know if it is the faux leather or what but they seem to retain that musty odor no matter what

I've used the dryer sheet method. My Mr. Fantastic Mego smelled like he'd been at the bottom of a wet ashcan for 30 years. I put him and his uniform in the plastic bag with the dryer sheet. I think I did leave it for like a week and it worked great.

Couldn't cure his gray zombieism, but hey...!

I was recently told vanilla extract is a good addition.

Fabreeze does a good job.Spray it into a plastic shopping bag the place the figure into it and tie it up for a couple days.

I've actually used a two step process of placing the figure in a sealed bag with baking soda for two days, then replacing the soda with a dryer sheet to finish off any residual scent the soda couldn't absorb. That has given me the best results.
