Anyone going to see the Conspirator

The movie related to the conspiracy to kill Lincoln.

I am a big history buff and it looks very interesting to me as this is the only 100% verified presidential assassination that was planned out by multiple people.

I will also be interested to see if a relative of mine is mentioned by name or appears as a nameless character in the movie. His name was Father Jacob Walter and gave Mary Surratt's last confession the night before her hanging.

I have a genealogy book that talks about this event and apparently Father Walter was given orders by a Colonel Hardy not to treat with Surratt with any dignity or innocense. In a nutshell, he told Hardy to shove it and would do what he felt was right. There was some reference that he stated what happened about 25 years after the execution and tensions had long died down. I'm not sure what exactly he stated but it is documented in a Catholic newspaper (the date is in the book that I have).

It really looks like it is going to be a great film. Not sure if I want to shell out the cash for it, however.

It's something I want to see, but i'd never go to the theatre to see it.

Well this is interesting. I Googled my relative's name and apparently the movie is causing his name to show up all over the internet. Here is a link to an old article explaining is involvement in the trials. The story is consistent with what has been passed down through family history and the genealogy books. I’ll be interested to see if the movie portrays Mary Surratt as a potentially innocent person who was at the wrong place at the wrong time or part of the conspiracy plot.

Saw the movie this past weekend. It was really good (especially if you are interested in history). Most of the movie occurred in the courtroom with flashbacks to the events that took place and I'm pretty sure most of the movie is historically accurate, maybe with a little artistic liberty. Funny enough, my ancestor showed up in 5 or 6 scenes and was mentioned by name twice. Pretty cool.

Hey that's so cool. I'm going to see this film at the theater. It looked really beautiful in the commercials--plus I love looking at period costumes.
