That was the same thing I thought when I first read the topic thread. I thought "Finally!". Something really good has happened for the man.

I did this some time ago. Still waiting on my paycheck to arrive. I just thought that maybe it was just taking a while for the mail to arrive since it was coming all the way from Nigeria.

Needless to say I am still waiting. You know how the post office can be here some times in the US. LOL!!

I got hit with that once. But we asked the guy to send us ten thousand dollars first and then we would help him. He sends us a check for forty thousand dollars. We immediately called homeland security. Turns out it was a fradulant check from a TOY company in Wisconsin. Disaster was averted but we sure did think it was real for awhile.

Unfortunately yes. To those of us with regular online experience, every scam like this is easily spotted. We know when we are on a site anda pop up comes up declaring you've won something it's just a stupid ad. Then there are folks like my Dad, who whenever he sees one of these ads or anything like like calls me to ask what he should do. There's an older generation who would rather not deal with online stuff at all so that when they are basically forced to,
they fall prey to scams they wouldn't normally due to lack of understanding and experience.

Great John, you got my email. I figured I would make the offer to you because I knew how much 23.6 million would help you.

There was a segment on "Dateline" or some other show like this. Yes, people do fall prey to it and it isn't even to the tune of $6,000 or whatever....they don't stop there.
Apparently, if you fall for the $6,000 another email, letter, phone call will arrive explaining a problem in retrieving the money but have been assured by some bank in Switzerland has the money in trust and will release for another $x amount. The scary part is that some of the scammers are right here in the U.S. and they will meet up with you if they think they have just hit pay dirt. The robbed one poor person of six figures (basically her life savings) by the time it was over. When asked why she responded that by the time she caught on that something didn't seem right, she was in so deep moneywise that she was basically living on a wing and a prayer that for some reason it was real and was willing to shell out additional money.

At the end of the day, it is not only preying on unknowledgeable people but preying on the natural desire for people to get a free lunch. Some might call it greed which has a negative conotation but we all have it to some extent. Sometimes I am amazed at some of the nonsense I overhear people talking about here at work. They sound like nothing more than a ponzi type scheme disguised as pyramid marketing or whatever the technical term is.

my uncle Robert almost fell for one ... due to the person who died name was David Gould (my other uncles name)... which I had to point out to my uncle robert that the name david gould is pretty common ... and that uncle david was very much alive and never was in africa. and that if they had all the access to that money why didn't they keep it themselves etc. than to just randomly pick people with the same last name. had a bit of a arguement with him ... and was told I was jealous he was offered the chance at the money and I wasn't. I pulled up about 4 emails that said about the same thing and showed him I too was offered the amazing deal.

I never did get a thank you from him from saving him about 4k he was about to send out.
