Violet Crumble; THE best candy bar in the entire universe...

    Ok,

Thanks to Kosta in Oz, I'm munching on a Violet Crumble. Life at this moment really can't get any better, really... I first got addicted to this amazing candy bar when I was in Perth on a surf trip. It's a super light and airy, honeycomb type of thing. Hard to explain if you haven't ever had one, but I strongly suggest you try to track one down.

Last year, Cat was nice enough to send me some, but I haven't had one since. I asked Kosta (BabyCyclops) to send me a few Australian DVD's and when I got the box a few hours ago, lo and behold, there were a couple of violet crumbles in there! Those are better than the DVD"S!!! So now, I am in heaven...

Also has the coolest tag line; It's the way IT SHATTERS that matters!

Thanks Kosta!!! I love my Aussie brothers and sisters, and miss Margaret River terribly. I still dream of Swan Lager and a pie floater!

I'll have to ask my Dad if he ever had one of these when he lived in Australia.

How does it compare to a Crunchie?

And speaking of Australian candy, my Dad's been going on about some kind of Black Currant jellies/gummies he used to really like back in the day.

Anyone know what he might be talking about? I ordered him some Roundtree's, but those weren't it.

Ahh! I knew you'd like those You are most welcome Sandy. I'm glad the Violet Crumbles survived the journey, there was just enough room in the box for them.

I didn't realise that you've visited Oz, I think pie floaters are more of a South Australian and Western Australian thing. My neighbourhood is full of Korean restaurants, Indian grocery stores, and a couple of old school Russian delicatessens (where the nicest cold and smoked meats may be had), multicultural to say the least!

I'm a pretty happy ape-man myself. I'm now the very proud owner of a Cmonster Conquest Gorilla, which, along with those that I grabbed last year, bring my haul to 3 of Sandy's customs!

          Thanks yerself Sandy!

I don't know what those might be. Next time I'm in the sweets aisle I'll have a snoop around. Sounds like something I used to get at the chemist

I was going to say, they look like a Crunchie. Wikipedia says it's similar to Violet Crumble, but although it's widely available in United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, India, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, Crunchie is only available as an import in the US, so probably has limited distribution.

Violet Crumbles are a little different to Crunchies. The honeycomb has a kind of grain running through it, rather than tiny bubbles through it, so when you bite into it, it shatters along these sort of fault-lines. They are truly delicious! All this talk is making me wanna go out and grab one...

Nope. Completely different flavor and consistency.

They look similar to a chocolate covered version of a candy in the states known as "sea foam", which if that is the case, I'm sure they're incredibly delicious.

Those of us growing up in Canada were inundated by the breakdancing Crunchie ads that played non-stop throughout all the after school tv programming.

I STILL hear that annoying voice over and song whenever I see a Crunchie.
