The 'Happy Meal' Bill looking for passage in NYC

Can you believe this? Has this country become so engrossed in managing people's lives that they have to go after successful food chains for selling cheeseburgers and french fries? REALLY? Where is personal responsibility in all this? Geez. Get the kids off the internet, limit their mindless texting and Facebook gossip, and get them outside to play as children should and these health issues will go away. McDonalds could sell nothing but health food and there would still be an obesity problem in this country unless kids were taught to get out and get some exercise. It's amazing to me that this corporation is being made to answer for people's personal choices and life styles. What will the government ban next? Halloween?

That reminds me of an article I saw on the news last night about some politician in the US proposing a tax on fat people and smokers.

Totally agree.that bill won't pass....Comrie is an idiot and true, kids need playtime and less time playing video games on the computer and texting non stop like zombies.

You also have the problem that too many parents are too lazy to cook meals at home and use Happy meals as quick replacement meals.

When I was growing up McDonald's was a treat not have it every week.

Even if they did ban them, what's to stop parents from ordering a hamburger, fries, and a soda separately like they did before the Happy Meal was invented! I had no idea this passed in San Fransisco! Corporations have no right to govern what parents can and cannot feed their children. Kids need to get off the video games, PCs and cell phones and play!! (see my previous post on Parent Coalitions) I've been thinking about how much crap I ate as a kid. Dumping tons on sugar on my cereal, eating candy, buttered popcorn, sodas, but I wasn't a fat child b/c I played. I ran around constantly, jumped rope, played on the swings, etc. Keep in mind, these stupid rules are probaby made by the same idiots who don't want kids to play tag at school ('cos they might fall), or Dodge Ball or any other games we enjoyed.

I'm so glad I don't have kids in this day and age!

Ive got a close friend over here now from the states, and she only seeks out natural produce, even very wary what shampoos she uses etc. A comment that she made, which I found very interesting. Even if the average person would eat normal meals (meat, potatos, salad), ok no burgers etc, they would still be over wieght, because of all the crap that is put into american food industry. Its going to happen all over the world, as the population grows, to turn over food quicker.

Then you would be wrong. How else would you define a discussion about a proposed bill and potential government bans?
