Disney starting to go overboard with their DVD pricing.

Just stopped by the local Wal-Mart at lunch to pick up Tron Legacy. I like buying the blu-ray and regular dvd version if it isn't too expensive since everything in my home isn't blu-ray yet. I saw Tron Legacy and Classic in a combo pack and thought it would be cool to have both since I don't have the original. The copy had Tron Legacy 3-D, Blue-ray, DVD, and digital and I believe the original in regular DVD and digital....$59.99!!!! That is ridiculous.

I did look around and saw that Target has Tron Legacy Blu-Ray and Regular DVD on sale for $19.99 and Tron Classic Blu-Ray and Regular for $19.99. So that means the 3-D version is worth $20 in a package deal? I really don't buy many dvd's anymore (especially Disney) but if they are going to make a habit of packaging 3-D versions along with the other versions and charging additional premiums for a version I don't want or need, this is going to get old pretty fast.

The reason being is that they are trying to reap as much as they can now with this marketing ploy from all hard copies because they are pushing download/streaming. Not to mention 3D is en vogue and flavor of the month so why not take advantage of the situation.
Yes, Disney works this way.
As for digital downloads/streaming, they are marketing this delivery method heavily and I realize some of you don't do download/streaming and prefer hard copies but the reality is they realize younger generations are wanting downloads/streaming because of the hassle free ease of use.
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE) is our main client and we do all their domestic and international encodes where I work. All their adverts, clips and other misc. content we receive from them to process state they are pushing for download/streaming and we are getting content for 2012 delivery.

Just something to keep in mind, the single pipeline that will run into your home will the your communication line to the outside world from your home. Meaning you will depend on your internet(Not counting telecom wireless networks) to do your shopping, talking, ordering, viewing, research and other activities in comfort of your monitor, be it your television or handheld device.
Some of us older folks may resist and disagree but seem the younger generation are already immersed in this new culture.

I think you would have to wait at least a year. Today is release day but the prices I'm quoting are on sale....That 3-D combo pack is $79.99 normally and I think the Target counterparts are $29.99.

I do like the streaming format and really like Netflix but I do get the occassional glitch where it takes a while for the data to retrieve or somewhere during the movie, it goes back into retrieve mode and I have a high speed cable connection. Also, the HD format isn't as good as Blu-Ray but hopefully that will change in the coming years.

I was in Best Buy over the weekend and saw they now have a whole sectiobn fo 3d Bluray and the standard price seemed to be $40.00, for the same movie you could buy on Bluray for $20 - $25.00. For me, 3d is a novelty, fun to see in theaters but i have no interest in watching 3d at home and having to wear the stupid glasses
