Anyone Have 3D TV, Or 3D BLUe Ray?

Just wondering if any fellow members have this new technology. I just bought Tangled for my daughter and wanted a digital copy. For whatever reason, Disney only included it on the 3D disc.So now i have a 3D Tangled and nothing to do with it untill I go 3D.

Wile at Best Buy we checked out the 3D TV on display. I gotta say, I was hardly impressed

Yep, there are new players that play 3D Blu-ray discs and the Playstation 3 has been updated to play them as well and there are a handful of 3D Blu-ray discs out there now. Personally, I wasn't impressed with what I've seen either. My eyes started to feel strained after a few minutes of watching. I seriously doubt this particular 3D tech will ever catch on. On the other hand, regular high definition films look fantastic on some of the 3D LED TVs that I've seen. It's just the 3D content that I'm not impressed with. With 3D, you sacrifice a lot of the colour and detail that makes non 3D Blu-rays look so great.

Chalk 3D TV up to what everyone in the industry was saying... just another flash in the pan that 3D has always been famous for. Every generation it rears its novelty head and disappears once everyone gets the glasses.

I looked at one just for a couple of minutes at a Best Buy and enjoyed looking at it but not sure if I would want to watch everything in 3-D. I enjoy going to some of the 3-D movies but one of my kids actually feels motion sickness during 3-D movies so haven't even seen one of those in a while.

I saw 3D bluray/HDTV set up demo-ed at Best Buy and I was quite impressed. It was a high end setup through and good HDTV 3D depends on a few things to look really good. It needs a minimum 120hz refresh rate but higher refresh rates of 240hz up help make it look a lot better, with less flicker.

3D HDTV uses a shutter system for the 3D effect. The 3D picture switches between left and right pictures many times every millisecond. The LCD shutter glasses are synced with the video signal and block out the left picture from the right eye and vice versa whenever it appears for that millisecond. The result is that on a 120hz system, each eye sees 60 left or right frames per second of the 120 frames the TV puts out.

240hz doubles all those numbers and there are even TV's that have up to 600hz for 10 times that number.

I like the idea of 3D TV but I am waiting to see if it catches on. If it catches on, the price for the really good 3D options will go down and more and there will be more 3D blu ray titles out there. I have to admit, I'd love to be able to watch Polar Express in 3D like I first saw it, at present, it's only out on blu ray in the analglyph (red/blue) format.

We have our PS3 for the Blu-Ray DVDs and looked at the 3D TVs but were not impressed at all. We ended up getting this one for our Christmas present. We got it for $798 on sale at Sam's Club after the Holidays.

                    Vizio Razor 47"

I highly recommend this TV!! The picture is unbelievable and blows our 2 year old, 42" Vizio in the weeds! The apps are nice too since we use Netflix and have Wi-Fi in our house. The movies stream to the TV flawlessly.

And playing high def video games on this TV is just sick! The quality is what I always dreamed of as a youngster. It only took 30 years to get there.

In my opinion it is still too early with the 3D technology to make it worth buying one.

If anyone has a 3D capable TV, it's a good idea to not let your kids watch too much 3D programming. Some doctors have said that because children's eyes are still developing, watching any more than a minimal amount of 3D video could mess up their vision. How's that for an endorsement for this techology.
