Pop Culture references you know about, but never saw...

Let me clarify w/ this example:

I have never seen the original King Kong Movie, but I do know that he captured Faye Ray, climbed the Empire Star Bldg, and swatted at planes. I just recently saw the original Frankenstein movie, but I knew about the basic story.

What pop culture references do you know about, but haven't seen?

Yeah - I know exactly what you mean.

I knew the twist to "Psycho" and the ending of "Citizen Kane" before I saw them. (Both movies held up very well anyway.)

I only saw "Gone With The Wind" maybe 3 years ago - and I basically knew the plot and characters just through cultural osmosis.

I was alive but young during the early '70's when people used words like "groovy, hip, ***** cat, etc."

I don't recall ever hearing one friend, parent, etc. ever use any of those words. I also didn't know what it meant to be a "hippie". I have a brother 10 years older than me so he was in High School in the '70's. In retrospect, his friends met all the criteria that would have been referred to as "hippies" neither my parents, brother, friends ever used the word so when I heard it on tv; I had no idea what they were talking about.

My girlfriend knew that Darth Vader was Luke's father long before I made her watch Star Wars. Neither her or her brother had ever seen the original trilogy. She's now seen them, but still not her brother...I must change that.
