Today at work while teaching the constitution to my 8th graders I showed a schoolhouse rock cartoon. I remember as a kid how much these taught me. They still work today. My favorite one is "shot heard round the world". Anyone else have a favorite?

Oh, yeah...
Junior Year in High School.
My teacher gave the class one period to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution. All I had to do was remember to say, "We the People of the United States.... (Schoolhouse Rock left out the bold part). Oh yeah, I had to tell myself NOT to sing.
Long story short, less than one minute after being given the assignment, I was excused from class for the rest of the day with a one-hundred on the assignment.
That was the most obvious time Schoolhouse Rock rescued me. There were countless times it saved my butt in Grammar and Math. Heck, all School amounted to back then was having wrote memory skills and Schoolhouse Rock was perfect for that.Last edited by saildog; Nov 22, '07, 1:03 AM.Comment

I love School House Rock.
My Daughter is trying to learn to county by 5's. I went on youtube and found the count by 5's song from School House Rock.
We had a blast singing the song and learning our 5's
Point of trivia. Does anyone know the inspiration for school house rock?
Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?Comment

I love Schoolhouse Rock!
Like Saildog, I also aced the preamble test by remembering the song.
My favorite, however, is probably one of the less popular ones, entitled "The Tale of Mr. Morton."
It starts like this:
This is the tale of Mister Morton
Mister Morton is who?
He is the subject of our tale
and the predicate tells what Mister
Morton must do--

When we had to take the preamble test, I could here the class humming to themsleves. One warning, however, they altered it very slightly to make it rhyme. Anybody know where?

I think it is interesting that the Schoolhouse Rock Preamble Song has enough influence to be included in the Wikipedia entry for the Preamble.(Addressing the excluded phrase in the song.)

Big part of old TV memories---for some reason INTERPLANET JANET seems
to be top of my favorites right now"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

"provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare and hence"
On a separate point, my favorites are 'Verb' and the perennial favorite, 'I'm Just A Bill.' (not sure if either is the correct title)Last edited by Wee67; Nov 22, '07, 2:12 PM.WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.Comment

What I think is cool, is that whenever Schoolhouse Rock has been spoofed, Jack Sheldon (who provided many of the voices for Schoolhouse Rock) has usually been included. That includes the times on Johnny Bravo, Family Guy, and The Simpsons.Comment
