I had to learn both half- and full-windsor knots (for the military) many, many moons ago.

A full-windsor for Basic Training, but I typically only do half-windsors for my suits at work.

It's one of the basics for life, like high school typing class..: "Don't need it, but it never hurts."

        Interesting,

I thought all military and police used clip-ons --- for safetly reasons

My mom used to tie mine up to when I was like 30

I used to have to bring them to the house every few months

When she tied them, she had to put them on herself and tie it like a man would

She used to always say "you're suppose to know how to do this"

now I only wear them for weddings and funerals and always loose with the top button unbuttoned. just to damn uncomfortable

You just turned 31 on you didn't even know how to tie a tie?

I'm 40 and do not know how to tie a tie. I've never had to wear one with any regularity. I have a few suits but I always wear them sans tie. The few times I've donned a tie, I've had others tie it for me. I don't even own one!

I always thought ties were stupid.
