I didn't like it as much as Schoolhouse Rock, but it was OK. I remember once, instead of Christopher Glenn, Josie and Alan (from Josie and the Pussycats) did the narrating for one In The News segment. It was pretty cool."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

I honestly never liked School House Rock as a kid. To me it was something that had to be endured until the show started I wanted to watch. If I absolutely could not sit through it, I would change the channel until it was over. I would rather watch commercials. I'm sure the educational content was great but I could NOT stand the songs or the singing in them. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

My 10 year came home from school a couple of months ago, complaining that he has to memorize a really complicated and long poem with big words, he'll never be able to memorize it, etc. I asked to look at it and it was the Preamble to the Constitution.
I remember SR did a song to this so we found a Youtube video that scrolled the words and now he knows it by heart and it was fun learning in the process."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

My daughter loves SR. She asked for it this past xmas because she said it was her teacher's favorite video. (They were showing some of them in her 2nd grade class)It's all good!Comment

That's how I passed my oral history test in high school. We had to recite the Preamble to the teacher (one at a time), and as I was sitting there, I was singing the Schoolhouse Rock version in my head, and I got an A.Livin' the American Dream!

I had a parent teacher conference with my son's teacher and told her the same story I just repeated here on the board. She laughed, said she had fond memories of school house rock and didn't think to tell her students to look it up on youtube if they were having trouble. I told her I was pretty impressed that she was asking her students to memorize it since U.S. History doesn't seem to be as emphasized as much in school anymore. She concurred and said that she remembered having to memorize it as a kid and at least wanted to pass the tradition along....I thought that was pretty cool considering neither of my two older kids were asked to memorize anything along those lines."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

I have an idea. When I was in college I was taking an anthropology class that focused on Native Americans. One of the videos we watched was a Native man reacting to the portrayal of "Indians" in the media. One of the things he took issue with was the "elbow room" ep of Schoolhouse Rock. Basically it says that the growing US needed land but whose land was it?
I think I noticed that that ep is still available in the box set.Comment

I hanker for a hunk of cheese. It has nothing to do with Schoolhouse Rock, I'm just sayin'...
Seriously though, I still enjoy the occasional Schoolhouse Rock. I used to listen to the audio tracks of them at work and actually learned something I didn't know.
