That's hitting it right on the head

They want to work here and make money ... But that's all they want

BTW, incase anyone is wondering, i'm not talking about migrant Mexican workers.

I mean high class doctors, technical workers and people like that.

You know something though, Mike; That reasoning isn't quite holding as much water as it used to in the 80's or even the early 90's. There's SO much more money in China right now. With our deficit, what money are they talking about? If there's more money in other countries, why do they come HERE? That's the question that needs to be addressed, especially now.

I didn't like it as much as Schoolhouse Rock, but it was OK. I remember once, instead of Christopher Glenn, Josie and Alan (from Josie and the Pussycats) did the narrating for one In The News segment. It was pretty cool.

The only song I can see causing trouble is Elementary,My Dear. And only because they talk about Noah.

I honestly never liked School House Rock as a kid. To me it was something that had to be endured until the show started I wanted to watch. If I absolutely could not sit through it, I would change the channel until it was over. I would rather watch commercials. I'm sure the educational content was great but I could NOT stand the songs or the singing in them.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

My 10 year came home from school a couple of months ago, complaining that he has to memorize a really complicated and long poem with big words, he'll never be able to memorize it, etc. I asked to look at it and it was the Preamble to the Constitution.

I remember SR did a song to this so we found a Youtube video that scrolled the words and now he knows it by heart and it was fun learning in the process.

That's how I passed my oral history test in high school. We had to recite the Preamble to the teacher (one at a time), and as I was sitting there, I was singing the Schoolhouse Rock version in my head, and I got an A.

My daughter loves SR. She asked for it this past xmas because she said it was her teacher's favorite video. (They were showing some of them in her 2nd grade class)
                  It's all good!

I remember having to recite the preamble also and found it funny that as I watched all the other kids, it was obvious that they were silently singing the SR version in their heads before saying it out loud.

I had a parent teacher conference with my son's teacher and told her the same story I just repeated here on the board. She laughed, said she had fond memories of school house rock and didn't think to tell her students to look it up on youtube if they were having trouble. I told her I was pretty impressed that she was asking her students to memorize it since U.S. History doesn't seem to be as emphasized as much in school anymore. She concurred and said that she remembered having to memorize it as a kid and at least wanted to pass the tradition along....I thought that was pretty cool considering neither of my two older kids were asked to memorize anything along those lines.

I have an idea. When I was in college I was taking an anthropology class that focused on Native Americans. One of the videos we watched was a Native man reacting to the portrayal of "Indians" in the media. One of the things he took issue with was the "elbow room" ep of Schoolhouse Rock. Basically it says that the growing US needed land but whose land was it?

I think I noticed that that ep is still available in the box set.

I hanker for a hunk of cheese. It has nothing to do with Schoolhouse Rock, I'm just sayin'...

Seriously though, I still enjoy the occasional Schoolhouse Rock. I used to listen to the audio tracks of them at work and actually learned something I didn't know.

I don't think the creators of Schoolhouse Rock were trying to sugar-coat Old Hickory and "The Trail of Tears" but yeah, I see the point there. From a parody standpoint I'd like to see a heavy metal SR where they portray the assassin failing to kill Andrew Jackson and where-upon was nearly beaten to death by A.J. as the former Prez. pounced on him with his cane.
