I was telling my twelve-year old daughter about how they used to dub old karate movies into English and how hilarious it was when the words didn't sync with the lip movements. She looked at me like I was crazy.

I'd like to show her some examples. Anyone have any ideas about the most terribly dubbed kung-fu movies of all time?

pretty much grab any of them from the 1970's and you are set.

though not exactly kung fu : legendary eight samurai had a great dub

the five deadly venoms would be another

new legends of shaolin (jet li) had a funny english dub as well

master with cracked fingers (jackie chan) would be another

Not a kung Fu movie but King Kong vs Godzilla is a great funny one for bad dubbing.

Fun Trivia... most Hong Kong cinema was shot without synch sound and dubbed. Even in chinese, where the audience would have been split into Cantonese and Mandarin speakers anyways (so why not dub both?), as well as exported to the many other parts of Asia that enjoyed HK cinema in their own language. I think the first synch sound films in HK were Jackie Chan's during the nineties around the time of Rumble in the Bronx (Police Story?).

Neat! I did not know that. Japanese stuff was usually dubbed like that too; but because sound recording equipment was expensive and difficult to lug around. So when they'd do outdoor shots, they'd dub it later in studio.

....and if you're looking for the ultimate in flap; there's always the original "Speed Racer" cartoon....
