I've often thought about this...Although I miss the great re-run lineups of stations like WNEW and WPIX back in the day, so much so that if I was ever able to program my own TV channel many of my choices and schedule would come from that era...I'm not sure I'd want to go back to the days of snowy reception, no reception, "monkeying with the rabbit ears", getting up to change the channel, "please stand by" etc.

I would go back. Heck when we as kids couldnt find anything on tv what did we do? We went out and played or did something constructive like use our imaginations. The old saying comes to mind (To much of a good thing is'nt always a good thing)Comment

Instead of waiting until 3 in the morning to watch "The Invaders" I can just pop in my DVDs.
I use to sit through the same cartoons over and over hoping to catch glimpses of new stuff - now I have piles of classic cartoons on DVD.
Last week I watched this great British show called "Misfits", 10 years ago there's no way this show would have been made.Comment

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago.
I came to the conclusion the good old days weren't as good as we remember.
There was a lot of junk on TV and with only 7-ish channels.
Today, we hand pick the stuff we love and think how great it was in the old days.
In reality, in the old days we had to sit through endless junk for hours just to wait for something good to eventually play.
If I was back in the 70's (after living today) I think I would be bored to death of 70's TV.
The reason we fondly remember many 70s shows...because those are the good ones we like.
But the vast majority of them sucked...we never mentioned those...they are simply forgotten.
We had to endure...because like you said...we had very few channels with no 24/7 programming.sigpicComment

Back in the old days, I'm 47, TV was a 2nd or 3rd thought. We went outside and got into our own adventures. We did not sit in front of electronics, eat crap and get fat.
We lived life and occasionally watched a monster movie on Saturday afternoons.
Here in Rochester we only had 3 stations to choose from, a 4th,PBS, if you had the right antenna.Comment
