Phil Collins makes it official...He's retired from music for good.

Sad, I still think he's one of the best drummers out there...unfortunately he can't play drums anymore with all the damage he's done to himself over the years. Here's an article from the net:

Phil Collins, Drummer and Vocalist, Retires | Arts Entertainment | Epoch Times

I don't think people dislike him or his music like he thinks...it's just music has gotten soooooooo bad that he is right when he says that there really isn't a place for him in music anymore. That can be said for a lot of the old timers out there. When you can't do what you used to do, for Phil it was play drums and piano...which he can't do anymore due to nerve damage, it really does suck.

Probably the ULTIMATE!!! Genesis song...unfortunately You Tube split up the Mama Tour version...and I can't even find the 2nd part of the 3 Sides Live version which IMHO is the best version of this Genesis Song/Medley...

Little ticked that I didn't get to see Genesis on the farewell tour. Enjoy retirement Phil...you deserve it.

Too bad, got to see him live once and he was really good. I agree most of the music today is horrible. So few older acts get the recognition anymore. With the price of concert tickets most people just don't go anymore.

I think 3 or 4 80's artists should get together and do a tour all performing each others songs. Collins on drums, Billy Joel on piano, maybe Bryan Adams on guitar, Eric Clapton too, etc. Get some other 80's bands like Styx or Night Ranger to open up for them. Be like an 80's Flashback.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I was never a Phil Collins fan but I do consider him Pop/Rock royalty.

Loved his video with the puppets

I think he's being a bit overly dramatic. He can still sing. They can get someone else to play drums and piano. I know it stinks he can't do everything he would like to do but people would like to see him out front singing the songs not hidden in the back behind the drums. That also doesn't mean he couldn't do another Genesis album in the studio. He can direct another drummer and lay down the vocals. I think he's just giving up. Pete Townsend has hearing problems but he came back for WHO tours.

Pete Townsend is all about the money. I think Collins is doing the right thing. why do more damage or even risk it, at his age. he is old enough for retirement anyway.....who knows, when he getsd bored maybe he will at least record again.
I saw him live years ago and he really puts on a great show

Love his early Genesis stuff, he was the perfect replacement for Peter Gabriel, saw them both live at the Milton Keynes reunion gig.

Totally. Text book celeb narcissism. Everything must be about them. Talk about self importance. Boo hoo everybody hates me. No, Phil, people don't find you interesting enough to give a crap about you one way or the other.

I've always liked Collins. Even got to see him in concert once a long while back. For a time he couldn't do any wrong and everything he was linked to was a hit much like Lionel Ritchie back in his heyday. Always was a fan and probably always will be. Kind of sad he feels that way.

I thought he retired long ago after selling his soul to Disney and doing the Tarzan and Brother Bear soundtracks.

I adore his Genesis stuff and the first two solo albums. I agree he doesn't have much commercial appeal anymore. Neither do most of his peers. I do respect him for getting out for the right reasons. Hopefully his hands heal in time and maybe, after reflection and time away, comes back with a studio album he can truly end a career with.

                    AGREED. ....shudders...

Kind of mirrors Eddie Murphy's career, eh? When I was younger, Eddie was 'cutting edge'...sort of like a younger Pryor/Carlin....I suppose that once Eisner signs your checks you are doomed to a vanilla life of dressing in fat suits and voicing inane cartoon characters....

You've never really listened to a Phil Collins album then...Give his first 2 solo LP's a try and you'll be saying otherwise. Listen to post Gabriel LP's like "Trick Of The Tail", "Duke", "Abacab" , "Genesis", and 3 Sides Live and you'll see how much of a great drummer and singer he really is.

I think Phil's problem was the same problem a lot of artists have today...you need to go away for a while. Take a year off or 2 and then make a new album. He just never did...and it's finally caught up with him. I hope he gives it a little time and does come back. Maybe a 45th Genesis anniversary in 2013...here's hoping that happens.

No...His problem was walking away from audience...

I'm a HUGE Genesis/Phil Collins fan...but...I hardly re-listen to anything beyond Genesis - Genesis or Phil Collins - Hello, I Must Be Going!.

"Sussudio" was the beginning of the end for him and "Invisible Touch" was the beginning of the end for Genesis.

I stopped listening to him years ago...he's just now realizing it...that's pretty sad.

Maybe he should take that angry and use it to write a good album again like his 1st two which were based on his divorce at the time?!

The last relevant music put out by Collins (in my opinion) was his work on the Band Aid Project and his contribution to Clapton's Behind The Sun album. I don't care for anything he did beyond that. Wasted years.

I think Phil Collins is one of the all-time GREAT male vocalists in all of pop music.

I have loved both his Genesis work AND his solo work for years. His retirement is sad news to me indeed.
