Blu-Ray question about region 1 and 2 discs

Back when I got my DVD player, when dinosaurs still ruled the Earth, I had to "fix" my player (region 2 Europe) to play US Region 1 discs.

I wonder: if my player dies on me, and I get a Blu-Ray player, will it play all regions?
I have too many region 1 DVDs, and don't feel like replacing my collection!

I wish ALL PLAYERS WERE MULTI-REGION..

I never could get my re-imaged Region 2 Space:1999 DVD set to play right on my cheap multi-region player I bought off Amazon.

Selling 'em now to buy the Blu-Ray disks. Don't even have a Blu-Ray player yet, but will get one later in the next month or so.

I think this might help you out. Some FAQS on blu-ray players and certain brands. If you shop the right player, you shouldn't have to replace your collection.

It seems that on blu ray You can play most international discs. I have the UK Alien set, plays fine and a foreign copy of the 1976 King Kong plays the HD content fine but not the SD extras which are in PAL.

P.S. The Space:1999 blu-ray set is awesome.
