    Knight Rider: Ironic 80's moment...

Just caught the tail end of an episode of Knight Rider on RTN and spotted something that struck me both funny and ironic. As part of the final punch line Michael tells KITT, "This'll make you feel better." And then he inserts a cassette. A CASSETTE?!? The world's most advanced car EVER has a CASSETTE player?!?!

    It made me laugh.

So has anyone else ever spotted one of these ironic TV moments (other than the Dukes burning rubber on dirt)?

Remember, this was like 1982 or '83, CDs were just coming out. Cassettes were the thing! Don't you remember hi-school and everyone got a Walkman for Christmas?

BTW...I still use my Walkman and cassettes!

In a similar vein if you ever see re-runs of Airwolf you may see Ernest Borgnine as Dom insert a recordable CD into the computer where he sits. Wow-no Zip disks, DVD-R's or flash drives or memory sticks were invented when Airwolf was on TV.

I had lost mine or possibly it was stolen. For years I was pretty upset about that so last month I put up a status on Facebook that I was looking for one. I ended up with FOUR! Two of them work, the other two....not so much. I've made a couple of mixed tapes of new songs that wouldn't likely ever exist on a cassette otherwise.

^ I'm with you here mam...I still have my (was over $100 when I bought it from Record Town..) silver Sony Walkman and my yellow plastic version as well...these machines are WELL engineered and have stood-up to MY rough usage all these years, and lord knows its not easy to be sat-on by 300+ pounds for so many years...

My wife has two or three of the 'POD' things. She loves them and they ARE pretty neat, though I cant get the hang of the Star Trek-like 'touching' of the facepad/controls... w e i r d

Oh I get that, I just found it interesting that since the writers went so far with all the high tech gadgets, that the imagination bucket went dry when it came to audio selection. But then again Radio was still fun to listen to back then so I can see Michael and KITT sharing a chuckle or two while listening to Rick Dees.

Well sort of along that same thinking, I get a chuckle now when watching Star Trek II and the code to take over Reliant's computer is a 5 digit number. At my job I have to password everything on my computer and our tech department makes us use at least 8 characters, at least one has to be a number, at least one has to be a letter, and at least one has to be a symbol. Yet, starship computers 200 years from now are pretty well protected with those wimpy passwords.
                It's all good!

It's what I listen to every day...

...an mp3 player made by SONY.

SONY never STOPPED making WALKMANS altho' they ditched
                  the cassette version way back.

(I'll never bother with the i-messyourplaylistsup gadgets)

Ah. Knight Rider. One of my all time favorite shows.

I would think a big show like Knight Rider could have afforded at least one CD player. Unless the behind the scenes NBC suits in charge of the budget for the show were pinching every penny they could. Actually, that wouldn't suprise me at all if that's the reason why K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R. (K.I.T.T.'s prototype) didn't have one.

                      Exactly.

If KITT was using a CD player (and not what was "hip" for "kids"
at the time), the humor and acessibility of Michael soothing KITT
with pop music would be lessened or totally lost.
