wow, that is amazing. what a life story. I hope he had memoirs or something that could be published. It's wierd I was just thinking that WWI gets very little mention, very few movies abut it. it was one of the few great things about the Young Indy series, that it took place during the war

My grandfather fought in WWI. Sounds strange that I'm in my early 40's with a grandfather being a veteran of the first World War. My parents were both the youngest siblings of their families, had fertility problems and I was not born until my dad was in his 40's himself (he is a Korean War Vet) and my mom in her late 30's. He died in the late 1970's which made him close to 80 years old even then. I distinctly remember that each cousin was allowed to pick one item from the house. Most grabbed stuff that had monetary value (they were older). Money didn't have much meaning to me at a young age and when it became my turn; I wanted his "official" military photo. Even to this day, I have it displayed proudly in my home. Lately, a few cousins have inquired about an interest in owning the picture since it is the only formal picture of him in uniform. I have responded that I will gladly make a copy of it if they want but the photo itself is not for sale at any price.
