I have great memories of playing my favorite music on an 8 track...it's really a time machine for me...great memories.
Having said that...it was rather terrible technology.
But yes...I dug it.sigpic -

My brother had one for the stereo in the living room, and it had these cool equalizer needles that would go up and down and as a little kid I was intrigued w/ these. I still remember who grainy Hotel California sounded coming out of that horrible bulky 8track as I cruised in my Nova with the windows open......
It was the sweetest thing I ever herd!

At the time 8-tracks were being phased out I got kind of mad the public was happily accepting cassettes.
Cassettes had way more background noise and seemed like a step down from 8-tracks.
I also missed the fact an 8-track could play continually all day ... They were great for background music at picnics and in the shop - where you didn't need to mess around changing sides and tapes after every so often.
I used to have an 8-track recorder ... and that made me the KING with all my buds
